‘A Easy Favor 2’ Will Reunite Anna Kendrick and Blake Energetic With Director Paul Feig

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively will reunite with director Paul Feig for A Simple Favor 2. In 2018’s crime comedy-thriller A Simple Favor, Kendrick plays mom vlogger Stephanie Smothers and Lively plays Emily Nelson, Stephanie’s mysterious friend.

According to an Amazon MGM Studios press release, A Simple Favor 2 will also bring back Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack from the first movie. Amazon MGM Studios will coproduce the sequel with Lionsgate.

The official synopsis of A Simple Favor 2 reads: “In the film, we see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”

‘A Simple Favor’ Proved Very Profitable for Lionsgate

A Simple Plan had a modest budget of $20 million and earned more than $97 million worldwide at the box office, which made Lionsgate a nice chunk of change. According to Variety, “Based on the 2017 novel of the same name, A Simple Favor told the story of a widowed single mother named Stephanie, played by Kendrick. Working as a vlogger in Connecticut, she looks enviously upon her best friend, Emily (Lively). Emily has a successful career, a loving family, and a glamorous lifestyle. However, things turn awry when Emily mysteriously disappears one day, causing Stephanie to launch her own investigation into her friend’s past, finding more than a few surprises along the way.”

According to the Amazon MGM Studios press release, “Anna Kendrick is an Oscar, Golden Globe, Tony, SAG, BAFTA, Emmy, and Independent Spirit Awards-nominated actress, producer, director, and New York Times bestselling author. Kendrick is making her directorial debut with the Netflix feature film Woman of the Hour, which will premiere this fall. She also produced and stars in the film.”

The press release continues, “Blake Lively is an actor, director, producer, and entrepreneur known for her work starring in films such as A Simple Favor, The Shallows, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Age of Adeline, The Town, and on the television series Gossip Girl. Next, she can be seen starring in the film adaption of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel It Ends With Us. Additionally, she will make her feature film directorial debut for Searchlight with the adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel Seconds, written and produced by Edgar Wright alongside Marc Platt.”
