First-term Rep. Kendra Horn will face Republican State Senator Stephanie Bice in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District. Bice overcame businesswoman Terry Neese in a hotly-contested primary runoff for this seat, which includes some of the areas in and around Oklahoma City. Oklahoma’s 5th District is one of the most traditionally Republican to currently continue to hold a Democrat in Congress, with President Trump carrying it by over 13 spots in 2016. First-term Democratic Rep. Kendra Horn will match up against Stephanie Bice in Oklahoma’s 5th congressional territory. Bice defeated businesswoman Terry Neese for the Republican primary election on Aug. 5, 2020 to decide the Republican candidate as neither Bice nor Neese received 50 percentage or more of the vote in the previous primary election.

The candidates

Horn, the former Manager of Communication and Media Tie-in for the Space Foundation, is a founding member of Women Lead Oklahoma, a nonprofit aimed at engaging with and getting more women involved in communal life.

Horn demolished Republican then-incumbent Steve Russell by simply over 1 percent in a major unnerve succes in the 2018 midterms. In January 2020, Horn connected the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of centrist Democratic congresspeople.

Bice currently represents the state’s 22 nd territory in the Oklahoma State Senate. She was a co-chair of President Donald Trump’s small business advisory council during his campaign and was the government of Oklahoma’s superintendent of public direction from 2011 to 2015.

Bice overcame Neese, a businesswoman, and the former national co-chair of President Trump’s small business advisory board despite the conservative Club For Growth PAC spending heavily in the runoff against Bice.

An internal Democratic canvas conducted for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and released the day of Bice’s runoff make showed Horn contributing Bice by five points, 51% to 46%, in the district. No Republican internal tallies of the race have been liberated as of more.

The district

Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District is currently in the centre of the nation and includes Oklahoma City, Edmond, Shawnee, and Seminole. The district is also home to nearly all of Oklahoma County and all of Pottawatomie and Seminole districts.

Oklahoma’s 5th District is one of the most traditionally Republican to currently be held by a Democrat in Congress. In 2012, Republican nominee Mitt Romney carried by the district by 18 phases that time, and President Donald Trump carried the district by 13. 4 percentage points in the 2016 ballot, according to the Daily Kos.

The money race

The long and drawn-out primary runoff between Bice and Neese granted Horn to amass a considerable cash advantage over Bice. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Horn has raised $ 3.6 million and has $2.6 million in money on hand compared to $ 1.45 million elevated and less than $80,000 in cash on hand for Bice.
