Airbnb asks users to donate money to hosts, gets roasted

Airbnb is receiving criticism online after promoting customers to donate money to the their hosts.

An Airbnb user shared an email to Twitter Tuesday, in which the corporation unveiled a brand-new boast designed to provide “encouragement” to striving emcees amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Like all of us, multitudes on Airbnb are impacted by COVID-1 9, and many of them are unable to welcome guests, ” the email begins. “Now more than ever, it’s important to be achieved and aid one another–even in small ways.”

The company goes on to introduce what it calls “kindness placards, ” intended to “make it easy to send a message of appreciation or help, with the option to add a contribution.”

“We hope these placards will procreate multitudes smile, and wreaking a little joy your method, ” the email reads.

The Twitter user who shared the email disagreed.

“Airbnb has lost its fucking head, ” @ olenskae said. “Why would I bequeath to my multitude? I can’t even yielded one house.”

Other Twitter useds piled on, taunting the company’s effort.

“I’m not sure I will be contributing to the mortgage for anyone’s second mansion at this time, ” @ BriannaWu wrote.

In a statement to Business Insider, Airbnb supported the brand-new aspect and stressed that providing monetary support to hosts is entirely voluntary.

“In the spirit of rekindling connects, we developed a brand-new feature that allows clients to transmit virtual posters with senses of support and encouragement to hosts who specified excellent hospitality, ” a spokesperson said. “If they wish, patrons have the option to add a voluntary business contribution.”

The company promised back in March to situate $250 million towards refunding hosts for cancelations as a result of the coronavirus.
