Young Thug just turned his homecoming into a forever thing.
In a moment that instantly took over social media, the Atlanta rapper proposed to his longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Mariah The Scientist, during his “Hometown Hero: Young Thug & Friends” benefit concert on Tuesday night.
The emotional milestone took center stage at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, marking a triumphant chapter for the couple after enduring a high-profile legal battle that kept Thug incarcerated for nearly two years.
The Proposal

The surprise unfolded just after Mariah finished performing her hit single “Burning Blue.” As the song ended, Thug, 34, joined her onstage. Footage captured by fans shows the rapper dropping to one knee as the massive LED screen behind them lit up with the words: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?“
The crowd erupted as Thug held up a massive diamond ring. Mariah, clearly stunned, laughed into the microphone. “Put it on!” she told him, extending her hand. After Thug slid the ring onto her finger, she turned to the screaming audience and joked, “I guess I’m getting married!”
Love on Lockdown
The engagement is a major victory lap for the couple, whose relationship was tested by Thug’s lengthy RICO trial.
Mariah, 28, stood by the rapper (born Jeffery Williams) throughout his incarceration, frequently attending court hearings and advocating for his release. Thug was released in October 2024 after entering a plea deal that included 15 years of probation.
While his probation terms generally restrict him from the metro Atlanta area, exceptions are made for community service and anti-violence presentations. This condition likely enabled Tuesday’s “Hometown Hero” charity event to proceed.
“I Want To Be Married”

The timing of the proposal wasn’t entirely random. Just days earlier, Mariah had publicly hinted at her desire to settle down.
In a December interview with radio host Angie Martinez, the singer was candid about her future plans. “I want to be married,” she told Martinez. “I can’t speak for everybody, but that’s what I’m doing… I want a commitment that doesn’t involve an obligation to a baby. I just want it to be out of love.”
It seems Thug was listening.
The couple has been linked since 2021. Despite rumors of a brief split following leaked jailhouse phone calls earlier this year, their onstage reunion confirms they are stronger than ever.
