Is it possible to actually make money working from home, using Amazon Mechanical Turk? In today’s episode, we’ll be “Turking” for two-hours to see how much I can make during that time and if this side hustle is worth it.

Amazon Mechanical Turk is a marketplace for work that requires human intelligence. Meaning tasks that computers and algorithms can’t do. With MTurk, workers have a selection of thousands of tasks to complete whenever it’s convenient for them. Each task is called HITS (human intelligence tasks). And you get paid per hits.

But how much money can you actually make by completing these HITS?

The average is said to be only $2 an hour. Only 4 percent of workers earned more than $7.25 an hour. But others claim that you can make much more.

To answer that question, for the next two hours, I am going to sit here and do HITS on Amazon Mechanical Turk.

I don’t know about you guy’s but all through my teen years I would always google “how to make money online?” mostly I would get told to take paid surveys (which always felt like scams), download Swagbucks, or watch sponsored videos. But I never really liked any of those options.

But boy if I knew about MTurk back then, I would’ve been all over it.

So what is Mechanical Turk?

The Mechanical Turk service gives businesses access to a diverse, on-demand, scalable workforce for jobs that require human intelligence. These jobs are called HITS. Examples of these HITS would be:

Write reviews
Take pictures of obscure objects in your environment
Audio transcriptions
Flag offensive photos
Transcribe receipts or data
Complete surveys for companies and university
etc

you can pick any job that interests you. I used to really like matching activities and taking short videos of myself and my surroundings. (yes it probably was as weird as it sounds)

I decided the best way to show you this platform, how this side hustle works, and if it is worth it for you, would be to spend the next two hours doing HITs with Amazon Mechanical Turk.

They call mTurk an online sweatshop because it pays so little. Payments for jobs are usually only a penny to $2 (but price amount is supposedly based on how long the HITs take to complete).

Some higher-paying HITS require special qualifications, you may need to apply or take a test for it. I have a lot of qualifications from when I did MTurk last summer, but not nearly as many qualifications that it takes to begin earning real money.
