Disney Units 2026 Launch Dates for ‘Moana,’ ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ and ‘Toy Story 5’

Disney updated its theatrical release calendar today, which makes 2026 look like a full year for the House of Mouse. Fans now know the planned release dates of the live-action Moana, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Toy Story 5, and TRON: Ares.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu starring Pedro Pascal will premiere on May 26, 2026. This marks Disney’s first big-screen Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

Fans don’t have to wait until 2026 for a sci-fi Disney movie, however. TRON: Ares — the third movie in the TRON franchise — will open on October 10, 2025. The anticipated sequel stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

During the Disney press announcement, CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Toy Story 5 will premiere on June 19, 2026. On Tuesday’s The Tonight Show, guest Tim Allen — who voices Buzz Lightyear in the animated franchise — said, “[Bob Iger] actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom [Hanks] and I to reprise the roles. They’re not saying anything about it.”

Allen continued, “For people like me, it’s just like — I’m a sci-fi buff. You wonder if four was too many, is five too much? According to the scuttlebutts, the writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it.’ So it could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney pushed back the live-action version of Moana 13 months to July 10, 2026. The date change is believed to give the animated Moana 2, which opens this November, a little more breathing room.

“I’m deeply humbled and overcome with gratitude to bring the beautiful story ofMoana to the live-action big screen,” said Dwayne Johnson in a statement when the film was announced in April 2023. “This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”

Disney also revealed that 20th Century Studios’ The Amateur starring Rami Malek will move from November 8, 2024 to April 11, 2025. In addition, Nightbitch starring Amy Adams will premiere on December 6, 2024.
