The boys from Boston are back in town. After breaking the internet with Air and dominating the headlines with their production company Artists Equity, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have officially landed on Netflix with their gritty new crime thriller “The Rip“.
It is the headliner of a massive weekend for the streaming giant. While the box office is still cooling off from the holiday rush, Netflix has dropped a slate of content that feels like a summer blockbuster season in the middle of January. From high-stakes police corruption to K-pop demon slayers and a nostalgic Adam Sandler romp, there is literally zero reason to leave your couch this weekend.
We have curated the ultimate guide to what is worth your time. Here are the eight movies you need to stream immediately.
1. The Rip (2026)

Genre: Crime Thriller – The Vibe: Training Day meets Triple Frontier but with more anxiety.
This is the big one. Directed by action veteran Joe Carnahan, The Rip marks the latest on-screen reunion for Hollywood’s favorite best friends. But do not expect the warm and fuzzy vibes of Good Will Hunting. This film is mean, lean, and incredibly tense.
Damon plays Lt. Dane Dumars, and Affleck stars as his longtime partner Det. Sgt. JD Byrne. The plot kicks off when their unit of Miami cops raids a semi-derelict stash house and discovers $20 million in cartel cash. What starts as a celebration quickly spirals into paranoia as greed and secrets threaten to tear the team apart.
Critics are already praising the “feral” chemistry between the two leads. The supporting cast is equally stacked with Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, and Kyle Chandler rounding out the squad. It is violent, sweaty, and features a third act twist that will have you screaming at your TV.

2. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5

Genre: Documentary – The Vibe: A tearful goodbye to Hawkins.
If you are still recovering from last month’s polarizing Stranger Things series finale, this documentary is essential viewing. Netflix surprised fans by dropping this feature-length behind-the-scenes look at the production of the final season.
It offers a raw and unfiltered look at the “unhinged” pressure the Duffer Brothers faced to stick the landing. You get to see table reads, emotional wrap days, and the technical wizardry behind Vecna’s final form. It is a fascinating post-mortem for one of the biggest shows in TV history.

3. K Pop Demon Hunters (2025)

Genre: Action Comedy – The Vibe: Buffy the Vampire Slayer with better choreography and catchy hooks.
Do not let the title fool you. This movie is an absolute blast. Released quietly late last year, it has found a second life on the Top 10 chart this week. The premise is exactly what it sounds like. A popular girl group moonlights as a tactical unit that hunts supernatural entities in Seoul.
The fight scenes are surprisingly high-budget, and the soundtrack is a banger. It is the perfect “turn your brain off” popcorn flick for a Friday night with friends.
4. Bone Lake (2025)

Genre: Erotic Thriller – The Vibe: Dark, twisted, and definitely not for family movie night.
For those missing the days of 90s erotic thrillers like Basic Instinct, this one is for you. Bone Lake has been trending on social media for its shocking plot twists and steamy scenes.
The story follows a couple who rent a secluded cabin to fix their marriage, only to realize they are being watched by someone who knows their darkest secrets. It is trashy in the best way possible and features a breakout performance from Maddie Hasson. Just maybe check the rating before you hit play.

5. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Genre: Animation / Superhero – The Vibe: Still the undisputed king of comic book movies.
Netflix has just added this modern classic back to its library, and there is never a bad time to rewatch it. With the third Spider-Verse film finally hitting theaters later this year, now is the perfect moment to remind yourself why Miles Morales changed the animation game forever.
The visuals still look cutting-edge eight years later. If you have a 4K TV, this is the movie to test it out on.
6. District 9 (2009)

Genre: Sci Fi – The Vibe: Gritty, political, and groundbreaking.
Another major library addition this month is Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi masterpiece. If you have only seen the heavily CGI-reliant blockbusters of the 2020s, District 9 is a refreshing reminder of how practical effects and a shoestring budget can create something iconic.
The film’s documentary-style approach to an alien arrival in Johannesburg remains one of the most unique entries in the genre. Plus it is a great showcase for Sharlto Copley at his absolute best.

7. Just Go With It (2011)

Genre: Rom Com – The Vibe: Comfort food for the soul.
Sometimes you just want to watch beautiful people hang out in Hawaii while Adam Sandler does silly voices. Just Go With It has returned to Netflix, and it remains a top-tier guilty pleasure.
The chemistry between Sandler and Jennifer Aniston carries the whole film, and Nicole Kidman’s bizarre cameo as the competitive frenemy is worth the runtime alone. It is the perfect Sunday afternoon “laundry folding” movie.
8. Donnie Darko (2001)

Genre: Psychological Thriller- The Vibe: Existential dread and 80s tunes.
Consider this your last call warning. The cult classic starring a young Jake Gyllenhaal is leaving Netflix on January 18. If you have never seen it (or if you are still trying to figure out what the ending means) you have 24 hours to stream it.
The film captures a very specific mood of early 2000s indie cinema that just doesn’t exist anymore. Plus, the “Mad World” cover at the end still hits just as hard in 2026.
The Verdict
The weekend belongs to The Rip. It is rare to see two A-list stars like Affleck and Damon commit to a streaming exclusive that feels this substantial. While the plot might tread familiar ground, the execution is top-notch. But do not sleep on the library titles. A Spider-Verse and District 9 double feature is a pretty incredible way to spend a Saturday.
Happy streaming!
