More Ways to Find Free Gyms Near You

Okay, so above, I mentioned a few gyms that offer free passes. But those aren’t the only options. I have a few tips for finding free gyms near you.

12. Ask at local gyms

Just because your local gym isn’t on the list above, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t offer free passes. Most gyms provide a free pass so that people can test out the facility before committing to a paid membership. Give your local gym a call and ask them about a free pass or free trial.

13. Check your local YMCA

Often, the YMCA gives out free passes for a few visits or it offers a free trial period. Just get in touch to ask.

14. Ask at your local community center

A great option, particularly for families, is community recreation centers. You can find gym equipment like free weights, and fitness classes, as well as additional features and amenities like kid’s programs, and swimming pools.

Now, these places aren’t totally free, but you can often pay just for each time that you visit, which really keeps the costs down. Or you could pay for the membership for a year and that usually works out far cheaper than a regular gym would.

Contact your city’s recreation center to learn more.

15. Ask your employer

Did you know that some employers will pay for some or all of your gym membership?

They do! Through corporate wellness programs, employers help their employees to pay for their gym membership or even offer them for free.

These gyms, for example, offer cheaper corporate memberships:

Check to see if your employer has a corporate wellness program. If not, then you could ask the HR department about setting up a corporate membership at a local gym or fitness center so that employees can get a discounted or free membership.

16. Try ClassPass

If you prefer fitness classes to a regular gym membership, then give ClassPass a try. It’s a website and app that you can use to book in-studio and digital classes.

You pay a monthly amount and get access to a network of studios. This can save you money because you aren’t having to pay for expensive classes individually. There’s a free trial available so you can test out fitness classes for free!

You get a free 14-day trial. You can take up to 5 classes within 14 days. The company will remind you 2 days before your trial ends, and you aren’t locked into a contract as you can cancel your membership at any time.

17. Search Google

If all else fails, it can be a good idea to simply go to Google and check to see if there are any local gyms that are totally free.

When I searched for the term “free gyms near me,” I got a list of public gyms that were free nearby. You even get directions so if you’re looking for free local gyms, this is a good tip. Yelp is also good. I actually got a list of 10 free gyms near me on Yelp when I did a Google search.

To get started, simply search for the term “free gym near me,” or “free gym [name of city].” So for example you could search for “free gym NYC.” This should bring up any free gyms near you if there are any.

Get Fit for Free!

Lots of gyms offer free gym passes. The thing is, you could try the free pass at every place on the list (provided you have a location near you) and get free gym access for more than a month! And, don’t forget to give my tips a try!

Oh, and why not skip the gym altogether and work out at home instead? I much prefer working out at home. Once you’ve paid for the initial cost of equipment, it’s free!
