There was a moment during Kristi Noem‘s March 4 House Judiciary Committee hearing that cut through everything else. Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove had just finished running through a litany of misconduct allegations against Corey Lewandowski — battery, sexual harassment, illegal lobbying — before arriving at the one question the entire room was waiting for.
“Have you had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski?”
Noem’s husband, Bryon, had been sitting directly behind her at the start of the hearing. He’d already slipped out by the time Kamlager-Dove asked the question. What followed was not a denial. It was a performance.
“I am shocked that we’re going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee today,” Noem said. She called Lewandowski a “special government employee who works for the White House” and said there were thousands like him across the federal government.
Kamlager-Dove cut back in. It was okay for Noem to be offended, she said. But if someone asks whether a federal official is sleeping with their subordinate, that should be the easiest question in the room. “You should be wanting to answer that question,” she told Noem. “Because it is not about your sex life. It is about your judgment.”
Noem never said no.
Three weeks later, the U.S. Embassy in Guyana posted official photographs from Noem’s meeting with Guyanese President Irfaan Ali. Sitting right there at the diplomatic table was Corey Lewandowski.
‘GIRL WHAT IS YOU DOING?!?’
Meghan McCain saw the embassy post and did what Meghan McCain does.
“Kristi Noem — you brought Corey Lewendowski with you to Guyana,” she wrote, “after just being fired from your last job after being asked in front of congress if you’re in an unprofessional relationship with him.” Then, in all caps: “GIRL WHAT IS YOU DOING?!?”
The post hit 275,000 views within hours. And the thing about McCain going after Noem is that this isn’t a liberal commentator dunking from across the aisle. This is John McCain’s daughter — a self-described proud Republican — who has been treating Noem like a personal project for months.
When Trump pulled Noem from DHS earlier this month, McCain didn’t just celebrate. She demanded prison time over the $220 million taxpayer-funded DHS ad campaign — the one where Noem rode a horse in a cowboy hat for what was supposedly a border enforcement campaign. She called her a “law enforcement OnlyFans grandma.” And when it was all over, she signed off with two words: “BYE WIG.”
So when the U.S. Embassy in Guyana handed her photographic evidence that the man at the center of Noem’s congressional humiliation was sitting at her diplomatic table three weeks later, it wasn’t a question of whether McCain would say something. It was a question of how fast.
The Timeline That Speaks for Itself
The Guyana trip was part of Noem’s first diplomatic tour as Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, the anti-cartel role Trump gave her after pulling her from DHS. She stopped in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Costa Rica before arriving in Georgetown, traveling aboard a DHS Gulfstream G700 acquired during her time as secretary.
A State Department official declined to explain why Lewandowski was on the trip but confirmed he holds no official role. Lewandowski did not respond to requests for comment.
This is the same Lewandowski whom more than 20 current and former Trump officials told the New York Times had sat in on classified briefings and wielded influence over billions in DHS contracts — all while classified as an unpaid part-time adviser. The same Lewandowski whom NBC News reported had allegedly sought payments from private prison company GEO Group in exchange for favorable contract treatment, which he denied. The same Lewandowski who allegedly fired a Coast Guard pilot mid-mission because Noem’s personal blanket wasn’t transferred when she switched government planes — then had to reinstate him because no one else could fly them home.
Democrats on the Senate and House Judiciary Committees have since referred Noem for potential criminal investigation, alleging she made false statements during her testimony — not just about Lewandowski, but about DHS contracts and the detention of U.S. citizens.
And now he’s sitting at a diplomatic table in Georgetown, appearing in photos posted by the U.S. Embassy, three weeks after the head of Homeland Security couldn’t bring herself to say “no” when Congress asked if she had an affair with him.
No one from the State Department has explained why he was there.
