A viral TikTok shows a man claiming he spent $54,720 on 500 Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders so he could resell the game at a markup after launch.
We Got This Covered reported that the clip was posted by TikTok user @hai.on.life and had drawn more than 2 million views at the time of the outlet’s article. The video shows a receipt-style screen with a $49,995 subtotal, $4,725 in tax, and a $54,720 total.
The man in the background video says he decided to get into reselling by withdrawing from his 401(k) and buying 500 copies of GTA 6. His plan depended on the game selling out, leaving late buyers with no choice but to pay him more after launch.
Viewers quickly questioned two parts of the story: whether the screen proved a completed purchase, and whether a modern GTA 6 copy can become scarce in the way a limited physical product can.
The Resale Plan Depends On Copies Running Out

The man in the viral clip says he expects to make triple his money back because GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated game releases in years. His argument is that buyers will rush to get the game, copies will sell out, and people who missed the launch window will have to come to resellers.
That approach can work with limited sneakers, collectibles, consoles, trading cards, or physical items with restricted inventory. It is much harder to apply to a mass-market video game with digital distribution, official storefronts, and retailer pre-orders.
Rockstar Games says Grand Theft Auto VI is coming November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official GTA VI page currently directs buyers to pre-order the game.
The Box Does Not Come With A Disc
Rockstar’s support page says the physical version of GTA VI will contain a code that can be redeemed for the digital download of the game. A disc will not be included in the box.
A code in a box can still be sold at retail, collected unopened, or given as a gift. It is not the same as a traditional disc that can be played, lent, traded, and resold after use.
Once a download code is redeemed, another buyer cannot use it. That creates a major risk for anyone buying a GTA 6 code from an unofficial reseller after launch.
Viewers Questioned Whether The Purchase Was Completed
We Got This Covered reported that several TikTok commenters questioned whether the clip showed a finished order. One commenter said the screen appeared to show a “CONFIRM pre order” step rather than proof that the transaction had gone through.
Other viewers suggested the video may have been satire.
Resale Codes Create Buyer Risks
The Federal Trade Commission advises online marketplace shoppers to research the seller and use safer payment methods, such as credit cards, when buying from someone online.
That advice applies to game codes, pre-order accounts, early-access claims, and “guaranteed” launch-day copies. A buyer may not know whether a code is valid, region-compatible, already redeemed, stolen, or real until after payment.
GTA 6’s launch hype also gives scammers an easy script. A fake seller can claim copies are sold out, prices are about to rise, or an extra code must be purchased immediately before someone else gets it.
Buyers Should Use Official Channels
For GTA 6 buyers, the safer path is to pre-order through Rockstar, PlayStation, Xbox, or a recognized retailer instead of paying a stranger who claims to have extra copies or download codes.
Fans should be cautious with any seller asking for payment by wire transfer, cryptocurrency, gift cards, friends-and-family payment apps, or other methods that make disputes difficult.
Anyone buying from a marketplace should save the listing, seller profile, messages, payment receipt, code details, and refund terms. Hype is not proof of scarcity, and a resale listing is not proof of a valid game code.
