Kat Dennings says one 2 Broke Girls scene disappeared before cameras ever rolled because she refused to do it as written. In a TikTok shared September 21, she recalled objecting to a script that called for her and Beth Behrs to run around their characters’ apartment in bras.
“You don’t pay me enough for a bra scene,” she recalled telling showrunner Michael Patrick King. According to Entertainment Weekly’s account of the video, that was the remark that ended the disagreement. The scene was removed.
Dennings placed the table read in either the first or second season of the CBS comedy. She played Max Black opposite Behrs’ Caroline Channing, two Brooklyn waitresses trying to save enough money to start a cupcake business.
Although the show was already successful, Dennings said she didn’t feel she had much influence over what she was asked to perform. She remembered being young and grateful for the job, but she still wanted the script changed.

After the table read, Dennings approached King with two options: remove the scene or have Max and Caroline wear clothes during it. In her recollection, King initially resisted changing the material. That was when she brought up her pay.
Looking back, Dennings offered viewers some advice: “Never underestimate yourself.” She also joked that the amount she was earning wasn’t the only obstacle. Even now, she doubted anyone could pay her enough to make the proposed scene worthwhile. EW said it had contacted representatives for King, Warner Bros. Television and CBS for comment.
The comedy had caught on quickly. CBS gave it a full-season order on October 5, 2011, just weeks after its September premiere. At the time, TheWrap reported that it had the highest average rating among adults 18 to 49 of any new series that fall. Created by King and Whitney Cummings, the show remained on CBS until 2017.
She Defended Billie Eilish and Recalled Cruel Casting Feedback
Years before sharing the table-read story, Dennings publicly defended Billie Eilish after photographs of the singer prompted comments about her body. Eilish was 18 when she was photographed in Los Angeles wearing a tank top and shorts in October 2020. Dennings responded in a Twitter post, saying Eilish had a normal body and that people criticizing her needed to examine their own behavior.
Discussing that response with Entertainment Tonight the following month, Dennings said she had looked like Eilish at that age and remembered having a difficult time herself. She objected to strangers commenting on a young person’s body and the distance social media gave them from the person they were criticizing. “People forget themselves because the internet is this wall they can hide behind,” she said.
In a separate interview published by PEOPLE on January 16, 2025, Dennings described receiving harsh feedback while auditioning as a child. At around 12, she would finish an audition and wait for her manager’s call, only to hear that casting people thought she wasn’t pretty enough or considered her fat. She said those judgments did not persuade her to stop acting.
Her parents encouraged her to dismiss the comments rather than accept them. She recalled their response as, “They’re idiots. Don’t listen to them.” Dennings remembered agreeing: “They’re idiots, I’m not.”
