Hilaria Baldwin knows how her marriage to Alec Baldwin can look from the outside.
The mother of seven addressed the couple’s 26-year age gap in a new interview, joking that the setup could sound like something written for comedy. E! News reported that Hilaria, 42, said a younger yoga instructor marrying a wealthy older actor “sounds like a bad SNL sketch.”
Hilaria said she and Alec, 68, are able to laugh about the age difference at home, but she pushed back on the idea that their marriage works because Alec is in control.
Hilaria Said They Joke About the Age Gap
Hilaria told the Daily Mail that her family jokes about the age gap, according to E! News. She also said the humor does not mean the marriage fits the stereotype people sometimes attach to relationships with a large age difference.
“We are on the same level together,” she said, according to E! News.
That answer kept the focus on partnership rather than image. Hilaria acknowledged why people notice the age gap, then framed the marriage as something she and Alec handle with humor and equality.
She Said Their Differences Are Part of the Marriage
Hilaria’s practical marriage advice was simple. Page Six reported that she said they “let each other be” and described herself and Alec as “polar opposites.”
She also said date nights help them stay connected while work and parenting keep their schedule full.
For the Baldwins, that often means dinner, either at a restaurant or at home, followed by conversations about their children and their projects.
Alec Praised Hilaria’s Work Ethic
Alec also spoke about what stood out when they met. He said Hilaria was not famous at the time and described admiring her work ethic.
The couple married in 2012 and have spent much of their marriage under public attention. Alec was already an established actor, while Hilaria later became widely known through wellness work, books, television appearances, and family-focused media coverage.
Hilaria’s latest comments did not present the marriage as effortless. She said they have stayed together by allowing their differences to exist rather than trying to make each other the same.

Alec and Hilaria share seven children: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, María Lucía, and Ilaria. Alec is also father to Ireland Baldwin, his daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger, according to PEOPLE.
