Peter Claffey (pictured, left) and Dexter Sol Ansell (pictured, right) have scored the lead roles on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, a Game of Thrones prequel series. The Hedge Knight is based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, including 1998’s The Hedge Night.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Claffey, a former Connacht Rugby player in Ireland, made his stage debut at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre in A Whistle in the Dark by Tom Murphy. He was seen in 2022’s Bad Sisters ו Wreck, and he’s set to star opposite Cillian Murphy in Small Things Like These and to appear in season three of Vikings: Valhalla.

“Ansell, now nine years old, started his acting career at the age of four on ITV’s 2019 show Emmerdale. His credits include Sky’s thriller series The Midwich Cuckoos and Netflix’s comedy film Christmas on Mistletoe Farm, but he more recently portrayed a younger Coriolanus Snow in last year’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”

In a 2023 blog entry, George R.R. Martin wrote that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will adapt 1998’s The Hedge Knight, 2003’s The Sworn Sword, and 2010’s The Mystery Knight. Martin wrote:

“Our premiere season will be an adaptation of the first of the three published novellas, The Hedge Knight, the tale of how Dunk and Egg first met during a tournament at Ashford Meadow. The pilot script is already written, and I think it’s terrific. It was written by Ira Parker, who is no stranger to Westeros. He was part of Ryan Condal’s writing staff for the first season of House of the Dragon, and wrote the fourth episode of House of the Dragon’s first season, ‘King of the Narrow Sea.’ That’s the one where Prince Daemon returns to King’s Landing after conquering the Stepstones, and takes Princess Rhaenyra down into the stews of Flea Bottom. Ryan Condal is on board as well, as an executive producer. So am I.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knightwill premiere in 2025 on Max.
