Deepak Chopra kept up a regular correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein for years after the financier’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor, according to documents the U.S. Department of Justice released.
The emails appear in over 3 million pages of Epstein-related records the House Oversight Committee published. NPR and CNN both reported on the messages as genuine Chopra communications. Chopra has since posted a statement on X acknowledging the emails and calling them “poor judgment in tone.” The statement is pinned to the top of his X account.
Records show the two stayed in touch from at least 2016 through 2019. CBS News reported that Epstein’s calendar listed about a dozen meetings with Chopra during those years.
The Israel trip and the two-line bombshell
In February 2017, Chopra invited Epstein to Israel. “Come to Israel with us. Relax and have fun with interesting people. If you want use a fake name. Bring your girls. It will be fun to have you,” he wrote.
The next month, Chopra sent a two-line message: “God is a construct. Cute girls are real.”

Another email described a night out with Epstein as “a blast. Ended 1 AM,” Religion News Service reported.
Turning to Epstein for money advice
Chopra asked Epstein for financial guidance, according to NPR, which reported finding voice messages where Chopra sought Epstein’s counsel on money matters.
The files also show Chopra using Epstein as a social connector. In 2016, he asked if Epstein knew Marla Maples, Trump’s second wife. CNN reported that Epstein responded with a story about losing a $10,000 bet to Trump over Maples’ pregnancy, claiming he paid it off with a truckload of baby food.
A 2018 exchange caught attention. Chopra asked: “Did she also drop the civil case against you?” Epstein wrote back “YuP.” Chopra replied: “Good.”

Setting up dinners with Woody Allen
The House Oversight Committee documents show Epstein set up dinners that brought together Chopra, filmmaker Woody Allen, and political figures. One dinner was supposed to include Miroslav Lajčák, who was serving as President of the UN General Assembly at the time. Reuters reported Lajčák quit his job advising the Slovakian government after his name came up in the files.
CNN found another exchange where Epstein asked if Chopra could get Leonardo DiCaprio to join a dinner with Allen. Chopra said he’d ask. The files don’t say if it happened.

Chopra addressed his appearance in the files in a statement posted to X and pinned to the top of his account.
“I am deeply saddened by the suffering of the victims in this case, and I unequivocally condemn abuse and exploitation in all forms,” Chopra wrote to his 2.7 million followers.
He said he was never involved in criminal or exploitative conduct and described his contact with Epstein as “limited and unrelated to abusive activity.”
“Some past email exchanges have surfaced that reflect poor judgment in tone. I regret that and understand how they read today, given what was publicly known at the time,” he wrote.
The statement had been viewed over 104,000 times as of Wednesday afternoon.
