Broken Social Scene é uma banda indie de Toronto, Canadá, formada por 19 músicos:
Brendan Canning, Kevin Drew, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Jason Collett, David Newfeld, Leslie Feist, Emily Haines, James Shaw, Michael Lani, Evan Cranley, Amy Millan, Ohad Benchetrit, Martin Davis Kinack, Jo-ann Goldsmith, Torquil Campbell, John Crossingham, Lisa Lobsinger e Julie Penner.
A banda tem 5 discos lançados: “Feel Good Lost” (2001), “You Forget It In People” (2003), “Bee Hives” (2004), “Broken Social Scene” (2005) e “Forgiveness Rock Record” (2010).
O primeiro cd, “Feel Good Lost”, é completamente instrumental, idealizado por Kevin Drew e Brendan Canning. Como os dois sentiram dificuldades para entreter o público com um show basicamente instrumental, convidaram diversos amigos do cenário underground de Toronto, formando um paredão musical de 19 pessoas, e, assim, em 2003 lançam “You Forget It In People”, demonstrando que quantidade também pode ser qualidade. Destaques para “Stars and Sons”, “Almost Crimes”, “Looks Just Like The Sun” e “Cause=Time”. “Bee Hives”, de 2003, é um coletânea de Lados-B e remixes de antigas musicas. Em 2005, sai o cd homônimo “Broken Social Scene”, aclamado pela critica e considerado o melhor cd da banda, com destaques para “7/4 (Shoreline)”, “Fire Eye´d Boy”, “Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Half)”, “Swimmers” e “Superconnected”.
