Wind Energy

This service has a free option, in which 50% of your energy comes from wind energy. You can also choose to enroll in the 100% or Evergreen memberships, which come at an additional cost of 1.5 cents per kWh. You spend on average $10 more per month, however, the energy is clean and better for the environment.

Price Alerts

If you’re a member in one of the following states, you can get continuous price monitoring of power rates in your area.

  • Illinois
  • Ohio
  • New Hampshire
  • Maryland
  • Washington
  • D.C.
  • Rhode Island
  • Connecticut
  • Massachusetts
  • Delaware
  • New Jersey
  • Maine
  • New York

Community Solar

There is a nationwide program in which a member pays one upfront cost of $100 per solar panel. After that, a month solar credit is added to your Arcadia Power bill. You save $1 per month per panel, however, those rates are anticipated to change as more people become involved in the program.

If you live in MD, DC, or NY, you can be enrolled automatically to the community solar program without needing to install your own panels or equipment.

Better Business Bureau Ratings

Before ever enrolling into a program that costs money, it’s important to make sure that the business is legit. That’s why we are providing a brief description of Arcadia’s BBB profile.

This is an accredited business with a B rating from the BBB. The reason for this rating is that it has had 27 complaints filed against the business. The majority of these complaints have been responded to and solved by the business.

There are also 38 reviews of the business, resulting in an average of almost 4 stars out of 5. To read the full BBB profile, click here.

Here are some Arcadia Power reviews on Reddit:

I’ve been using Arcadia Power for 6 months. Depending on what you want out of it and what they offer in your area, it can be a good deal. They have a free “50% wind energy” program that works with a lot of utilities. Since Arcadia lets you pay your electric bill w/o an additional fee, using the free 50% program lets you use a credit card to pay your electric bill, get the credit card rewards/points, and supports renewable energy. Win-win-win. All at no additional cost,” said one Reddit user.

I use them up in NY state & very much like it! I have Solar Panels as well (which they were upfront about that if I had them I should contact them & let them know, & I did) & they have a great interface, I can pay (fee free) with a credit card (getting additional cash back savings) & they notified me 2 different times about lower rates they’ve locked me into. Overall I’m very pleased with them,” said another Reddit user.

There are some who aren’t fans of the service, however. “Arcadia does not provide you with clean energy. They purchase worthless renewable energy credits (RECs) on your behalf. Here’s how it works: Some states have installed much more wind energy than required by law, for example, Texas. When this happens, the excess RECs are worthless. Arcadia buys the RECs and then tells you your energy is clean. It is not. Buying RECs does NOTHING to lower emissions. Buying excess RECs does not support clean energy. You are not supporting clean energy, you are just giving money to Arcadia to support their illusion,” said one Reddit user.

What this person doesn’t take into account, however, is that as Arcadia grows, so does the demand for clean energy. As the demand increases, so will the production of clean energy.

Final Thoughts

So is it worth it?

For the free version, definitely. You have a good chance of saving about 30% off your utility bills completely free, plus you can help the environment.

For the premium services, however, you aren’t likely to save money. In fact, you probably will spend more but get the benefit of getting 100% clean energy.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it.
