Talk about a vintage revival. Apple Martin stole the show at the New York premiere of A24’s Marty Supreme on Tuesday night, stepping out in a dress that looked very familiar to eagle-eyed fashion historians.
The 21-year-old daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin arrived at the event wearing the exact black Calvin Klein Collection slip dress her mother wore to the premiere of Emma in July 1996.
While Paltrow, 53, stars in the Josh Safdie-directed film alongside Timothée Chalamet, it was her daughter’s sartorial tribute that had the internet buzzing. Apple didn’t just borrow the dress; she recreated the entire vibe of her mother’s original ’90s look, proving that true style is timeless.
The resemblance was uncanny. Apple styled the floor-length, spaghetti-strap gown almost exactly as her mother did nearly three decades ago. She opted for a similar “perfectly undone” blonde updo with wispy, face-framing layers and minimal accessories, allowing the dress’s clean lines to speak for themselves.
Paltrow, meanwhile, played the proud mom and fashion twin. She coordinated with her daughter in a sophisticated black Valentino couture gown featuring a drop waist and a daring leg split. The mother-daughter duo posed arm-in-arm, looking less like parent and child and more like Hollywood’s chicest new power couple.
They were joined by 19-year-old Moses Martin, who looked dapper in a grey blazer and striped tie, reportedly a nod to British prep style by Dior’s designer, Jonathan Anderson. This marked a rare full-family red carpet appearance, as Moses had previously escorted his mom solo to the Los Angeles premiere earlier this month.
The “Archival” Plan
This fashion moment has literally been decades in the making. Paltrow has long been vocal about archiving her extensive wardrobe for her daughter. In a September interview with Vogue, the Goop founder revealed she started saving pieces “15, 20 years before she was born.”
“I don’t just see a top, I’ll see a moment in my life,” Paltrow said. “I’ve always saved everything in hopes that I had a daughter one day who would want to go in there.”
It seems that day has arrived. Apple has previously admitted to “absconding” with her mom’s ’90s Calvin Klein pieces, telling Today that she is “very into the ’90s, as all the kids are apparently right now.”
The “Marty Supreme” Buzz
The family outing was in support of Paltrow’s return to the big screen in Marty Supreme, a high-octane ping-pong drama set in the 1950s. The film, which hits theaters on Christmas Day, stars Chalamet as table tennis prodigy Marty Reisman.
While Chalamet has been turning heads with his own method-dressing promo tour, including wearing matching orange Chrome Hearts outfits with girlfriend Kylie Jenner in LA, the New York premiere belonged to the Paltrow-Martin clan.
