There’s a video going around of a man stepping in front of a 400-pound rolling boulder. It looks fake. It looks like AI. It looks like something someone made up for clicks.
Except it actually happened: Disney World, December 30th.
If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you might know the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular — a live show that recreates that famous scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. You know the one. Harrison Ford. Temple. Giant boulder. Run.
Only this time, the boulder went off-script.
During a live performance, the massive rubber prop — designed to barrel down a track while a stunt performer narrowly escapes — slipped its track and started bouncing toward the crowd.
At first, guests thought it was part of the show. In one video, you can hear a guest joke to his family, “It’s coming right for us.” People laughed and cheered.
Then the boulder kept coming — and that’s when a cast member named Robert stepped in.
According to eyewitness Drew Bruinsma, who spoke to People, “We were sitting there and didn’t know what was going on, then all of the sudden a worker named Robert stepped in front and saved us from getting smashed.”
Robert, a former stunt performer, put himself between the 400-pound prop and the crowd. The impact knocked him flat on his back. He got back to his feet with blood running down his forehead. Another cast member rushed over to help.
In the video, you can hear the man behind the camera say what everyone was thinking: “He literally saved our lives, that guy.”
Robert received six stitches and is recovering, according to a friend who posted on X. “He’s a former stunt man and his quick thinking saved many,” Ashley Suit wrote.
And because this is Disney, the show went on. Bruinsma says Robert came back out after the performance to wave at the crowd. He got a standing ovation.
Disney confirmed the incident in a statement: “We’re focused on supporting our cast member who is recovering. Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened.” The boulder, for now, has been benched.
It’s not the ending Harrison Ford would have scripted. But then again, Indiana Jones always did prefer improvising.
