9 Methods That Nonetheless Work

Free stuff on Amazon is mostly digital, and most of it needs no Prime membership. This guide gives Amazon’s own rules for each of nine ways, what people recorded when they tried them, the freebies Amazon has ended, and why the review-for-refund groups cost more than they save.

Key takeaways

  • Free to anyone: 6 of the 9 ways are open to anyone, from free Kindle books to 900+ free TV channels.
  • Free trials add up: Prime, Kindle Unlimited, Music Unlimited and Audible trials together are worth $48.96, and every one renews unless you cancel.
  • Vine is taxed: Amazon says Vine Voices “are responsible for income tax on the products”, and you cannot apply.
  • Shopper Panel pays up to $10 a month for receipts, but it is invitation-only and 29 of its 50 newest App Store reviews give 1 or 2 stars.
  • Review groups are a trap: Amazon bans reviews for refunds, and the FTC can fine businesses $53,088 per violation of its fake-review rule.

9 Ways to Get Free Stuff on Amazon

Each of these is free to the reader who qualifies. The table says who that is; the entries below give the rules and the catch.

Who qualifies and what each is worth, from Amazon’s own pages and the apps’ rewards pages, read October 13, 2026.

Free Kindle books

You don’t need a Kindle. Amazon’s Kindle app guide says the free app comes from the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Samsung Galaxy Store, and “you don’t even need to own a Kindle”. Amazon keeps a Best Sellers: Best Free Books chart, with every book on it priced at $0.

Amazon publishes no count of its free books. Engadget’s June 2026 guide puts it at “over 60,000” at any one time and notes that Amazon “declines to offer a complete list”. On a computer, the old Kindle for PC stopped being supported on June 30, 2026; Amazon’s desktop help page says the new app needs Windows 11 or macOS 10.14 or later.

Worth it? Yes, for anyone who reads: it costs nothing and needs no account beyond Amazon’s. Watch for “Free with Kindle Unlimited” tags, which need the paid plan.

Free trials of Prime and its add-ons

Amazon gives new subscribers free time on most of its paid plans. Each one renews at the price below unless you cancel first. Amazon’s Prime fee page says: “When your free trial or membership period ends, we’ll automatically charge for the next membership period.”

  • Prime: 30 days free, then $14.99 a month or $139 a year.
  • Prime for Young Adults (it replaced Prime Student): a 6-month trial for “18-24 year-olds and students”, then $7.49 a month or $69 a year.
  • Prime Access: 30 days free, then $6.99 a month for “EBT, Medicaid, SNAP, and other select government assistance recipients”.
  • Kindle Unlimited: 30 days for “new subscribers who have not tried Kindle Unlimited”, then $11.99 a month.
  • Music Unlimited: 30 days for “new subscribers only”, then $12.99 a month ($11.99 with Prime).
  • Audible: a 30-day trial “to new members” of Standard ($8.99 a month) or Premium Plus ($14.95). Audible is not included with Prime.
The young-adult Prime trial is worth the most (What each free trial would cost at its price after the trial, US, October 2026): Prime for Young Adults (6 months) $44.94; Prime (30 days) $14.99; Audible Premium Plus (30 days) $14.95; Music Unlimited (30 days) $12.99; Kindle Unlimited (30 days) $11.99; Audible Standard (30 days) $8.99.
Trial length times the monthly price each plan renews at, from Amazon Prime, Music Unlimited (non-Prime price), the Kindle Unlimited FAQ and Audible, read October 13, 2026. Each trial is for new subscribers and renews at that price unless you cancel.

Priced at what each plan renews at, the young-adult trial is worth $44.94 (six months at $7.49). One 30-day trial each of Prime, Kindle Unlimited, Music Unlimited and Audible Standard is worth $48.96. A Prime trial also unlocks the Prime-only perks listed further down, such as First Reads and free Luna games.

The catch is the sign-up screen.

In 2023 the FTC sued Amazon, alleging it pushed shoppers into Prime with screens like the one below and made canceling hard. Amazon settled in September 2025 for $2.5 billion, $1 billion of it a civil penalty and $1.5 billion in refunds. Amazon’s court brief had argued that “a small percentage of customers misunderstood” Prime, NPR reported.

The Prime trial screen the FTC sued over: 1. The yellow button signs you up for Prime's free trial; 2. The way out: a plain "No thanks" link; 3. The $14.99 a month charge, in the small print.
Amazon’s mobile Prime offer as reproduced in the FTC’s amended complaint (FTC v. Amazon.com, No. 2:23-cv-00932, W.D. Wash., filed September 20, 2023, page 37). The card number is painted over. Amazon settled the case in September 2025, and the order requires a clear button to decline Prime.

The order requires a clear button to decline Prime and a way to cancel as easy as signing up. In September 2026 the FTC raised the refund cap from $51 to $200 per person, paid automatically, with more than $845 million paid by then.

Worth it? Yes, one trial at a time, with a reminder set two days before it ends. The 6-month young-adult trial is the best value if you are 18 to 24 or a student.

Amazon gift cards from reward apps

Reward apps pay for surveys, games, receipts and shopping in points you can swap for Amazon gift cards. That makes an order free, paid with your time. The smallest Amazon card each app lists:

  • Swagbucks: its help center’s example is “a $3 Amazon gift card for 300 SB” (100 SB is $1). Digital cards arrive in minutes to five business days.
  • PrizeRebel: a $5 Amazon card for 500 points.
  • Freecash: Amazon cards “starting from as low as $5”, but your first withdrawal needs an ID check with a selfie and a $5 to $20 minimum that depends on your region.
  • MyPoints: Amazon is among its $5 to $25 gift cards, and its $10 bonus needs $20 of shopping through MyPoints in your first 30 days.

Swagbucks Summary

  • Many ways to earn money and e-gift cards
  • $10 welcome bonus after a $25 shop purchase
  • Up to 10% cashback when shopping online
  • $3 minimum e-gift card withdrawal
  • Play games and enter tournaments for SB
  • Legit platform run by Prodege

Swagbucks says its 15 million-plus members have cashed out nearly $700 million, though most surveys pay $1 to $3. Our Swagbucks review logged its own earnings. Our lists of sites that pay Amazon gift cards and apps for free gift cards compare more of them.

Worth it? Yes, if you already spend idle minutes on your phone: a $3 or $5 Amazon card takes a few sessions. Not a way to get anything big quickly.

Amazon Shopper Panel

Amazon Shopper Panel pays you to share receipts from purchases made outside Amazon and to answer short surveys. Receipts earn “up to $10 per month towards either an Amazon Balance or a charitable donation”, and surveys pay extra. It is “an opt-in, invitation-only program” for “a limited number of Amazon customers 18 years of age or older” in the US and six other countries; anyone else can download the app to join the waitlist.

The $10 is a ceiling, not a promise. Early on, a YouTube creator recorded getting a little over $20 in about two months in 2021, under the old rule of $10 for 10 receipts.

Of the 50 newest US App Store reviews, 18 give 1 star, 11 give 2 and 15 give 3; only 6 give 4 or 5. About 15 of them say the pay per receipt has fallen, one from “$7-$10 a month to $1-$3”, and about 15 say valid receipts get rejected.

Most recent Shopper Panel reviews give 1 to 3 stars (The 50 newest US App Store reviews, April 19 to October 1, 2026): 5 stars 3; 4 stars 3; 3 stars 15; 2 stars 11; 1 star 18.
Our count of the 50 newest US reviews of Amazon Shopper Panel on the App Store, read October 13, 2026. A sample: unhappy users write more, and the app’s overall rating that day was 4.88 from 180,311 ratings.

If you are stuck on the waitlist, Fetch also pays for receipts from any store, in points that swap for Amazon gift cards. Most rewards need 3,000 points, and your first redemption must be a $10, $25 or $50 card. Our Fetch review has the detail.

Fetch Rewards Summary

  • Easy to use
  • Earn points with any grocery store receipt
  • Earn points on over 500 product brands
  • Rewards – gift cards and sweepstakes

Worth it? Yes, if Amazon invites you: snapping receipts you already have costs a minute. Expect less than $10 a month.

Amazon Vine

Amazon Vine lets selected reviewers “order items free of charge” in return for honest reviews, marked “Vine Customer Review of Free Product”. You cannot apply. Amazon says “customers who consistently write insightful reviews are most likely to be invited”, and Voices “are not paid to participate”.

The products are not tax-free: Amazon’s seller page says Voices “are responsible for income tax on the products”. Two Voices showed their dashboards on YouTube: one showed a $409 “taxable value” for the first two months in 2026 and a 1099-NEC form, another $797 by May 2024. For 2026, the IRS raised the line at which a payer must file a 1099-NEC from $600 to $2,000, but that only decides whether a form is sent.

Sellers pay for the reviews. Amazon charges $0 to enroll a product with up to 2 units, $75 for 3 to 10 and $200 for 11 to 30, and the seller gives the products away on top.

Sellers pay Amazon up to $200 per Vine product (Vine enrollment fee per parent product, by units given away, US): Up to 2 units $0; 3 to 10 units $75; 11 to 30 units $200.
Fees from Amazon’s Vine page for sellers, read October 13, 2026. Sellers also give away the products, shipped through Fulfillment by Amazon.

Amazon’s member rules sit behind a sign-in. Voices on YouTube describe two tiers: Silver, up to three items a day priced $99.99 or less, and Gold, up to eight items a day at any price. One said that for the first six months “you don’t own the merchandise, Amazon does”.

Worth it? Only if Amazon invites you and you want the items enough to pay tax on them. The route in is writing useful reviews of what you buy.

Share a Prime member’s perks through Amazon Family

If someone you live with pays for Prime, you may not need to. Amazon’s Amazon Family page says a member can share Prime with “one other adult”, up to four children, and teens only if added before April 7, 2025. Shared perks include delivery, Prime Video with ads, Prime Reading, Grubhub+ and Photos.

The test is one home: “you and your invitee must live together at the same primary residential address.” The older Prime Invitee sharing, which had no such rule, ended on October 1, 2025.

Worth it? Yes, for a partner or roommate at the same address: it is the full Prime perk set for $0.

Free movies and TV with ads on Prime Video

Freevee, Amazon’s free streaming service, was phased out from November 2024, and its shows moved to Prime Video labeled “Watch for Free”. Amazon’s April 2026 Prime Video explainer says all customers, Prime or not, get “more than 900 free ad-supported (FAST) Channels in the U.S.” and “even more content for free with ads”.

Worth it? Yes, if ads don’t bother you. The Prime catalog itself still needs Prime or the $8.99 Prime Video plan.

Amazon Music Free

Without Prime “you can still get Amazon Music for free”, Amazon said in February 2025: “over 100 million ad-supported tracks”, with songs picked and played only in its All-Access Playlists. Prime members get the same catalog in shuffle mode without ads.

Worth it? Yes, as a free radio-style app. For any song on demand, the paid plan’s 30-day trial is the way to try it.

5 GB of Amazon Photos storage

Every account gets 5 GB of cloud storage shared across photos and videos, Amazon’s Photos help page says. Prime makes photo storage “free and unlimited at full resolution”, while videos still count toward the 5 GB. If you cancel Prime, you keep the 5 GB, and anything over it must come off.

Worth it? Yes, as a backup for a phone’s photos. Prime members get the most from it.

Free With a Prime Membership

These cost nothing extra once you pay for Prime, or during a Prime trial. They are not a reason to buy Prime on their own.

From Amazon’s pages on Prime Reading and First Reads (September 2026), Luna (September 2026) and Grubhub+, read October 13, 2026.

The best physical freebie also needs Prime. Amazon’s Baby Registry welcome box goes to Prime members who create a registry, add 10 unique items from its checklist “and have over $10 of purchases from their registry (by themselves or others)”. Amazon called it “a $35 value” in 2024.

Our guide to free baby boxes compares it with other registries’ boxes.

Ways to Save on Amazon That Aren’t Free

Page-one guides often list these as free stuff. They save money, but each costs something.

Amazon Trade-In

Trade-In takes phones, video games, electronics and Amazon devices, and pays in an Amazon gift card, up to five items and $1,800 per order. Trading in also earns 20% off a new Kindle, Echo, Fire tablet, Ring, Blink or eero, once per device family every three months.

Subscribe & Save

Amazon’s Subscribe & Save takes “up to 15% off when receiving 5 or more products in one auto-delivery to one address”. Amazon says you don’t need Prime for it or for its free delivery.

Free shipping without Prime

Without Prime “you can get free delivery by spending at least $35 per order”, Amazon says, on items shipped by Amazon, in about five to eight days.

Registry completion discount

Baby Registry owners get 15% off what is left on their list, on up to $2,000 of orders, so at most $300. It runs from 60 days before the due date to 90 days after.

Price checks with Capital One Shopping

Capital One Shopping is a free browser extension and app that, its own blog says, shows when an item on Amazon is cheaper elsewhere, tax and shipping included. You don’t need a Capital One account. Its pages don’t say Amazon orders earn its rewards; our Capital One Shopping review covers where they do.

Amazon Resale

Amazon sells used and open-box items at a discount through Amazon Resale. Amazon says buyers saved over 25% on average in 2023.

What Happened When People Tried It

Reporters, YouTube creators and complaint sites recorded what these ways paid. Old accounts may describe rules that have changed.

Sources: NPR; YouTube videos by LE Technology, a creator’s 30-day Vine test and Traveling Trex; BuzzFeed News; BBB, read October 13, 2026.

The most useful Vine account is a new Voice’s March 2026 video. The dashboard on screen shows the Silver limit of three items a day priced $99.99 or less, a 91% review rate on items ordered, and the tax form Amazon asked for. “You do have to pay taxes,” the creator says.

LE Technology’s video, posted March 24, 2026, shows a new Vine Voice’s dashboard, tier limits and taxable value. Vine’s rules may have changed since.

The creator who tried Vine for 30 days in 2024 worked out the tax: at a 25% tax rate, a $10 roll of tape costs about $2.50. The verdict: “it’s not for me”.

Complaints about free trials are a small share. We read the newest 70 BBB complaints about Amazon (September 29 to October 8, 2026): 4 concerned a Prime charge, trial or renewal, and none were about Vine. In one, a customer offered Prime “free of charge for 24 hours” at checkout said a $15.89 charge followed.

Bottom line: The people who did best treated these as small extras. Vine’s free items come with a tax bill and a review quota, and Shopper Panel’s newest App Store reviews report shrinking pay.

Amazon Freebies That Ended or Never Existed

Many guides still list freebies Amazon has closed. The dates below come from Amazon’s own notices where it published them.

Amazon freebies that ended: Oct 2019: Amazon Giveaway closes in the US. Ran from 2016; existing giveaways expired on October 17; Apr 2021: Early Reviewer Program ends. No new sellers from March 10, service stopped April 25; Nov 2024: Freevee brand phased out. Its free shows moved to Prime Video as Watch for Free; Aug 2025: Android Appstore and Amazon Coins end. Support stopped August 20; Fire tablets and Fire TV keep it; Oct 2025: Prime Invitee sharing ends. Sharing now needs one shared home address; Jun 2026: Legacy Kindle for PC unsupported. The new desktop app needs Windows 11.
Dates from ChannelX (Giveaway), Amazon’s notice quoted on Seller Central (Early Reviewer), Deadline (Freevee), Amazon’s developer blog (Appstore, Coins), its Amazon Family and Kindle desktop help pages, read October 13, 2026.

Amazon Giveaway, started in 2016, let its last US giveaways expire on October 17, 2019. Amazon stopped taking new Early Reviewer sellers on March 10, 2021 and ended the service on April 25. The Android Appstore and Amazon Coins closed on August 20, 2025.

Other tips that circulate don’t match anything Amazon publishes.

Checked against Amazon’s Giveaway FAQ, its Vine page, its Appstore FAQ and the sources under the timeline, October 13, 2026.

No-Rush delivery rewards still exist, offered order by order at checkout. One offer page gave a $2 digital reward for ebooks, music, videos and apps for choosing slower delivery, and it expired on March 31, 2026.

Free Products for Reviews: Why to Skip Them

Page-one guides recommend Facebook groups and rebate sites such as Rebaid, Vipon and Snagshout. Whatever a site’s own rules, Amazon’s Community Guidelines say customers may not review “in exchange for compensation, including payments, refunds, discounts, products, gift cards”. Free products are allowed “through the official Vine program offers” only.

The penalty falls on your account: Amazon may “suspend or terminate” it and withhold payments. Sellers face the FTC’s fake-review rule, in force since October 21, 2024. It bans rewards tied to a review’s sentiment, at $53,088 per violation, a figure the FTC kept for 2026.

  • You pay first. The shopper BuzzFeed News followed in 2019 had spent over $15,000 that year and was $2,282.01 out of pocket on 117 orders awaiting refunds.
  • The groups are big. Which? found six Facebook groups trading Amazon reviews for free products in 2023, one with more than 15,000 members.
  • Amazon sues. It took the admins of more than 10,000 Facebook groups to court in 2022, and its legal actions shut more than 100 fake-review and scam websites in 2025, it says.

For free products you can keep without breaking a rule, our guide to product testing apps compares programs that send items to test.

Bottom line: A “free” product for a 5-star review means paying up front, waiting on a stranger for a refund and risking your Amazon account. Vine is the only route Amazon allows.

Why Amazon Gives Things Away

Most free things on Amazon lead to a subscription. Amazon’s subscription revenue, mostly Prime, reached $49.6 billion in 2025, up from $44.4 billion in 2024, its annual report shows. It spent $23.5 billion on advertising and promotion, and it does not count the cost of Prime benefits and shipping offers as marketing at all.

Why Amazon can afford free trials: $49.6B Prime and other subscription revenue, 2025 (Amazon 10-K); $23.5B Advertising and promotion costs, 2025 (Amazon 10-K); $139 Prime a year, unchanged since Feb 2022 (Amazon); 201M US Prime users, Dec 2025 quarter (CIRP estimate).
Sources: Amazon’s 2025 annual report (Form 10-K), its Prime fee page (read October 13, 2026) and Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (January 2026), whose survey estimate counts everyone using a membership, family members included.

A free trial is a sale that renews by default at $14.99 a month, or $139 a year, a price unchanged since February 2022. CIRP, a research firm, estimates 201 million people in the US used Prime in the December 2025 quarter. The other freebies pay their way too: sellers pay up to $200 a product for Vine reviews, and Shopper Panel shows Amazon what you buy at other stores.

Bottom line: Take the free part and decide on the paid part separately. A trial you forget to cancel is how the offer pays for itself.

Scams That Use “Free Amazon” Offers

Scammers borrow Amazon’s name more than almost anyone’s. From July 2020 to June 2021, about one in three people who reported a business impersonator to the FTC said it claimed to be Amazon, with more than $27 million lost.

One hook the FTC named was a text offering “a raffle for a free product from Amazon”, then asking for a card to pay shipping. In 2023 Amazon was second, with about 34,000 reports, behind about 52,000 for Best Buy and Geek Squad and ahead of about 10,000 for PayPal.

Amazon was the second most impersonated company in 2023 (Reports to the FTC of scammers posing as each company, 2023): Best Buy / Geek Squad about 52,000; Amazon about 34,000; PayPal about 10,000.
Report counts from the FTC’s May 2024 release on 2023 data, the newest year the FTC ranked companies by name.

A package you never ordered is a different trick, called brushing. The FTC’s August 2026 alert says sellers send something cheap so they can post fake reviews in your name.

Federal law lets you keep unordered merchandise as a gift, under 39 U.S.C. 3009. The FTC advises changing your shopping passwords, and Amazon asks you to report the package through its unwanted package form.

Tips for Getting the Most Free Stuff

  • Stagger the trials. Start one, set a reminder two days before it ends, and start the next only after deciding.
  • Write useful reviews of what you buy. It is the only published route toward a Vine invitation.
  • Join the Shopper Panel waitlist now. Invitations come from the app, and waiting costs nothing.
  • Spend gift cards, not cash. Point a reward app’s earnings at an Amazon card you redeem before a big order.
  • Ignore “free” texts and calls. Amazon’s real offers sit in your account, never behind a shipping fee.

Verdict: What’s Really Free on Amazon

The free stuff on Amazon that anyone can get is digital: books, shows, music, storage and trials. Physical freebies come through Vine, the baby registry box or gift cards you earn elsewhere.

Worth doing

  • Free Kindle books and Prime Video’s free channels
  • One free trial at a time, with a cancel reminder
  • Swagbucks or Fetch for Amazon gift cards
  • Shopper Panel, if Amazon invites you
  • The registry welcome box, if you already have Prime

Skip

  • Review-for-refund groups and rebate sites
  • Paying for Prime only for its freebies
  • Anything sold as a code or glitch
  • “Free Amazon gift card” texts and calls

How We Researched This

We read Amazon’s own help pages, program terms and annual report, the FTC’s complaint and settlement in its Prime case, and the FTC and IRS rules the page cites. What happens inside Vine and Shopper Panel is credited to the reporters and YouTube creators who recorded it. We counted the newest 70 BBB complaints about Amazon and the 50 newest Shopper Panel reviews on the App Store, on October 13, 2026.

Free Stuff on Amazon FAQ

How do you get free stuff on Amazon for reviews?

Only through Amazon Vine, which is invitation-only. Amazon’s rules ban reviews in exchange for refunds, discounts or free products from sellers, and accounts that break them can be suspended.

How do I become an Amazon Vine reviewer?

You can’t apply. Amazon invites customers who “consistently write insightful reviews”, so the only route is writing helpful reviews of things you buy.

Is there a code or glitch for free stuff on Amazon?

No. Amazon runs no code program for free items, and posts promising one are often a way to collect your details. Its real offers show in your account or at checkout.

How do I get free shipping on Amazon without Prime?

Spend at least $35 on items shipped by Amazon, which arrive in about five to eight days. Subscribe & Save orders also ship free without Prime.

Does Amazon give free samples?

Not on request. Amazon publishes no sample sign-up for US shoppers, and the closest thing is the baby registry welcome box for Prime members. Our guide to free sample sites lists brands that mail them.

Can I keep an Amazon package I didn’t order?

Yes. Federal law lets you keep unordered merchandise as a gift, but the FTC says it can be a brushing scam, so report it to Amazon and change your password.
