For those of us luck enough to see a lighter at the end of the tunnelculturePhoto by Benmar Schmidhuber on UnsplashVaxxed, waxed and ready to go back to normal.

You got your shots( or you’re waiting for shot# 2 ).

And everything is gradually re-opening.

You can see friends again.

Go out again.

Socialize and connect in ways that we have all been starved of over the past year and then some.

Understandably, we’ve been pent up, and now we’re ready to run head first into an open world-wide again.

But the pandemic breather “ve brought” some converts that we should consider holding onto as we finally get to hold each other again.

Because overconsumption of available resources, power, and using of the natural world is how we completed in a pandemic in the first place.

Here are four main things to consider as we start to go back outside 😛 TAGEND1. Conscious Spending

It is SO easy to just go YOLO and buy all the things.

In the last weekend alone( the first of my own province’s reopening ), I wasted $200 on a new( secondhand) bike, $70 on accessories for said bicycle, $60 on snacks for a park outing with friends, $30 on boozes for the picnic, $50 on brunch the day after , not to mention $80 on groceries so I could cook my snacks for the next week.

To say I blew my budget would be putting it lightly.

Patios are calling my reputation. Fancy craft concoctions are calling my mention. Socially distanced contests and hang outs are calling me.

“Treat yourself! ” says my subconscious.

But how do we do that consciously?

For me, it’s reviewing my spend over the past few months, and re-allocating some money for used to go. So that there is nothing to IS a expend plan that I can work with, and respect, without out hurting my other fiscal goals.

2. Conscious Shopping

I went out on my first first appointment since the pandemic began, and I immediately wanted to go shopping for a new outfit.

It’s not like I had a closet full of invests I hadn’t touched in a year, right?

No, for the brand-new season of seeing each other again, we of course feel the attract to get a new wardrobe to mark this new phase of life.

Mile-long paths sounding up outside supermarkets everywhere tell me I am not alone.

In fact, due to online supermarket, fast fad uptake actually accelerated during lockdown.

The problem with fast fad?

Plastic. Waste. Low Quality. Underpaid labour. More shipping= more fuel.

I resisted the insist to browse this time, but in future, I’m focused on getting back to thrift shopping, so at least I’m curing divert landfill consume, and yield good quality drapes another life while saving my coins.

Will I buy brand-new things? Of direction. I genuinely want a new swimsuit, and I don’t want to get that secondhand. So instead I’m going to budget for one or two pairs of quality, recycled fabric swimsuits, instead of buying half a dozen from H& M.

3. Conscious Travelling

This is less of thing hitherto in Canada compared to the States, but parties certainly want to get out of town and meet brand-new places.

I personally wish I could book a plane ticket to my country of Trinidad and Tobago. But alas, the borders are closed. Yes, even to its own citizens.( Because the pandemic is not over more in other neighbourhoods ):

Why vaccine apartheid necessitates the pandemic will never aim .

But how can we travel more consciously?

Only going when amply vaccinated is a great first step.

Travelling slower is better for the environment. Consider committing to longer jaunts, to counterbalance the carbon emanated. Specially for situates that require air travel to get to.

Try to invest in the neighbourhood economy. Avoid all-inclusive recourses that import everything and invest next to nothing in the local economy you’re so excited to visit. Avoid enormous order inns. Look for small-minded hotels, bed and breakfast, and in some cases, even Airbnb is a better option.

Explore the country you’re visiting beyond the curated tourist attractions and international eatery orders. Get to know neighbourhood people. And pay them well for their services and products.

4. Awareness Socializing

Connecting with each other is SO important. And connecting closely with other beings is integral to our overall health and wellbeing.

But let’s not just meet up for gather up’s sake. Just because we can.

Everything doesn’t have to be a large party or gathering.

Pre-pandemic, I was a major texter. Now, I help everybody to merely pick up the phone and call me.

Conversations are better. Deeper. More intentional. I’ve gotten so much closer to the few people I managed to keep in touch with over the last year.

And now I’m energized to reconnect with other friends, family and working relationships. Excited to hug and touch people.

Don’t get me wrong, small talk is very important. Interacting with acquaintances and even strangers is important, and refreshing.

But we don’t need to surround ourselves with people we don’t particularly even care about just for the sake of it. Let’s nurture intentional connections and relationships.

Building and encouraging my community is one of my biggest objectives for the rest of the year.

And community is what we need to get out of this mess, and face the challenges on the road ahead, both in our personal men, and the planet overall.
