What Does Price Match Guarantee Mean?

Before we get to the list, for those unfamiliar with the practice, let me explain what price matching actually is.

With so many competitors, retailers have to constantly come up with new ways to attract customers, from offering lower prices, coupons and promo codes to sales, excellent customer service and generous return policies.

But one of the best ways most small and major retailers use to stay ahead of their competition is by offering price matching.

With this tactic, stores literally steal their competitor’s customers, legally!

Price matching is a tactic where stores guarantee that they will either match or beat competitors’ lower prices.

So let’s say if you find a TV at Best Buy for $500, but the same TV is selling for $600 at Walmart. You show Best Buy’s price to Walmart and Walmart will sell the same TV to you for $500 or less.

It’s a great and easy way to save money, especially on higher-priced items. And thankfully, these days most major retailers offer price matching.

1. Academy Sports and Outdoors

Here’s how the Academy Sports and Outdoors price match works:

  • Who it price matches with: Academy Sports and Outdoors will beat any competitor’s advertised price by 5%.
  • Price match period: Within 14 days
  • The catch: It must be an identical, in-stock item that’s currently advertised in print or online.

2. Advance Auto Parts

Advance Auto Parts has a price match policy. Here’s how it works:

  • The catch: The product must be available the same day at the competitor’s store or website. For online competitor’s, the price match must include shipping charges in the price of the product.

  • The catch: The product must be identical and in-stock. And it cannot be combined with other discounts or offers.
  • How to get it: Lord & Taylor will match the price of an item at the time of purchase or within 7 days of purchase. Just contact the customer service team at 1-800-223-7440 and provide a link to the lower price or competitor marketing. You can also request a price match in-store or on the website.

14. Lowes

Here’s how the price match guarantee at Lowes works:

  • The catch: The item must be identical and in-stock. The price match does not apply to items on closeout, clearance, or liquidation, special orders, location specific offers, gift card offers, holiday sale offers including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and competitors’ mail-in rebates, and the store doesn’t deduct the value of any gift with purchase.
  • How to get it: When you find a lower price on an item in-store or online at a competitor or Office Depot at the time of purchase or within 14 days after your purchase, just show a store associate the lower price and they’ll match the price or refund you the difference.

Amazon Price Match Guarantee

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t have a price match policy.

Here’s what the company says about it:

“Amazon.com consistently works toward maintaining competitive prices on everything we carry. ”

So basically their reason is that they already offer the lowest prices on items, so you’ll save money by shopping at Amazon anyway.

That said, I don’t think Amazon always has the lowest prices. I have seen many products with higher prices on Amazon than at other stores like Walmart and Target. That’s why it pays to comparison shop before you buy, whether you check manually or use one of these price comparison apps.
