President Donald Trump took the stage in ruby-red Kansas on Monday night to campaign for Sen. Roger Marshall, a one-term incumbent facing a surprisingly close race against Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton.<\/p>\n

Trump unleashed a series of personal and baseless attacks against Hamilton at the rally in Park City, Kansas — about 10 miles north of Wichita — with just two weeks out from election day as the balance of power in the Senate hangs in the balance. And he also returned to anti-Muslim and anti-immigration rhetoric as he has in recent events to attack other candidates.<\/p>\n

The contest has drawn attention because a Democratic victory could end Kansas\u2019 94-year streak of electing Republican senators.<\/p>\n

Trump portrayed Hamilton, a popular pastor and the founder of the largest United Methodist congregation in the United States, as a “bad person” and a “disgrace”\u00a0who is \u201cpretending to be a moderate.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the rally, President Trump was interrupted by five protesters during four incidents and, after one of the interruptions, he remarked on the \u201cgreat law enforcement\u201d who swiftly escorted the interrupters out of the rally.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s remarks about the Kansas law enforcement came as news broke not long before that a local man will be facing a federal charge<\/a> for allegedly threatening to shoot the president ahead of his Wichita rally.<\/p>\n

Trump also again repeatedly used anti-immigration rhetoric during the rally, directing criticism at Muslim figures including Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. He urged the crowd to vote for Republicans to preserve the United States’ \u201cheritage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans are going to stand up and declare that we will defend our culture, we will protect our civilization, we will preserve our religion, our values, and our heritage, and we will never let our nation be conquered or destroyed by people that hate us,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

As he has in the past, Trump referred to El-Sayed as \u201cMohammed,\u201d saying, \u201cI can call him whatever the hell I want.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I think we all well know why they’re doing it. My name is Abdul. I’m Muslim,” El-Sayed told ABC’s Linsey Davis<\/a>, addressing why he’s a frequent target of Trump and Republicans. “My name and my faith are not the reason people can’t afford their gas, not the reason people can’t afford their groceries, not the reason people can’t see a doctor. And so they’re going to try to distract, because that’s all they have.”<\/p>\n

Trump also criticized Omar and referenced Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who is also Muslim.<\/p>\n

Trump argued that Marshall would fight against what he called \u201chostile third-world migrants,\u201d \u201cjihadists\u201d and \u201ccommunists,\u201d among other groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats are the party of anti-Western Marxist and hostile third-world migrants. And Senator Roger Marshall and the great people of Kansas will not let them plunder our nation’s wealth or demolish what our ancestors built with their own sweat, blood, tears, and skill,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

Trump defended Marshall against some of Hamilton\u2019s attacks on the Republican, attempting to \u201cset the record straight\u201d for Marshall in light of a recent New York Times report that as an OB\/GYN, Marshall filed lawsuits against more than 700 patients who hadn’t paid their medical bills.<\/p>\n

The outlet also reported that Marshall’s lawyers sought arrest warrants for at least 81 patients who missed their court dates. Marshall has denied this report.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Marshall is] one of the, he’s a tough guy and all, but he’s also high quality, and he’s a fine person, and he was given a bum rap because he was mandated by law to request strongly money owed from patients,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

Trump claimed Marshall did not break this \u201ccriminal\u201d law which makes you \u201cgo after\u201d patients, and used an antisemitic slur to defend the candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou got screwed with that stuff,\u201d Trump said, motioning to Marshall. \u201cSo I just want to set the record straight. That should not happen to a good person.”<\/p>\n

In 15 days, we’re going to re-elect Roger Marshall, one of the greatest\u2026 and we’re going to defeat the communists, the jihadists, and the corrupt anti-American lunatics once and for all. We’re going to put them back. We got to set them back. Got to hit them hard,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

Trump also predicted Republicans would maintain control of Congress in the midterms, dismissing national polls by pointing to his 2016 presidential victory, when polls had projected he would lose.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, when I won in 2016, they were saying, “Oh, he doesn’t have a chance. … They said Hillary is going to win. The Democrats are going to win because you know why? Those are crooked people. But the pollsters are worse,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWell, it turned out I was right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton’s campaign said that Marshall and Trump were distracting from the real issues.<\/p>\n

“Roger Marshall\u2019s campaign is sinking, and Washington is panicking. They\u2019re sending in reinforcements to lie and attack Adam Hamilton to try to save Marshall,” Tyson Brody, a campaign spokesperson for Hamilton, said in a statement obtained by ABC News Tuesday. “But nothing said at the rally can distract from the fact Kansans are being crushed by rising gas and diesel prices, struggling to access affordable healthcare, and are tired of Washington corruption. Kansans are looking for a senator who will be a champion for us, not Washington.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
