And I’m running an experiment in AI domain investing.<\/p>\n
In the last 30 days, AI bots put in more than 347 hours of work on my domain name investing business.<\/p>\n
They graded over 700 names.<\/p>\n
They bought 11.<\/p>\n
They started experimenting with cold email and sent over 100.<\/p>\n
Total sales so far? Zero.<\/em><\/p>\n That’s the honest starting point for AI domain investing.<\/p>\n I gave Grok Bot 6 months to make this business profitable. You can follow the whole thing over at domainnamelovers.com<\/a>, where we share the names we’re hunting, what sells, and what the bots are doing.<\/p>\n Here’s everything we’ve built so far, plus the parts I didn’t see coming.<\/p>\n \n \n \n My domain name investing strategy is very passive. (If you’re new to this, here’s my take on domain name flipping<\/a>.)<\/p>\n I do the research. I buy names I think are good and that I’m willing to hold on to for a long time.<\/p>\n Then I list them for sale on both Spaceship<\/a> Seller Hub and Afternic<\/a>.<\/p>\n And then I basically just let time pass.<\/p>\n It’s like putting a for sale sign on the house and waiting for someone to eventually make an offer.<\/p>\n My goal is to sell 1 to 2% of the portfolio per year.<\/p>\n If I can do that, I can stay profitable, keep growing the portfolio, and invest in better names over time.<\/p>\n As of right now, I’ve reinvested all profits.<\/p>\n I’m slightly profitable.<\/em><\/p>\n That’s where I am.<\/p>\n \n \n I wanted a real use case for Grok Bot.<\/p>\n At first, I didn’t want to spend the money on it.<\/p>\n So I made myself a deal: I’ll give this thing 6 months and see if AI domain investing can actually work for my business.<\/p>\n Let’s just test it and see how it goes.<\/p>\n I’m a little over a month in.<\/p>\n Here’s what I can tell you so far:<\/p>\n I haven’t made a single sale yet.<\/p>\n But I’m blown away by Grok Bot.<\/p>\n I’m not only using it for domain investing anymore. Join 3,000+ builders<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n \n There’s a Google Sheet at the center of my whole AI domain investing setup.<\/p>\n Grok Bot literally runs it.<\/p>\n Every day it does research, pulls new names onto the list, and grades them:<\/p>\n There’s also a tab for the names we’ve actually purchased.<\/p>\n When I asked what we’d bought most recently, it came back with 11 names from our October wave of research.<\/p>\n One of them was my own idea, but Grok Bot added it to the list anyway.<\/p>\n \n \n There’s a running list of jobs the bots handle on their own.<\/p>\n I don’t always check on it, because I know it’s just doing things.<\/p>\n I’ll say something like, “Hey, remind me of that every Tuesday,” or “Yeah, let’s do that,” and it becomes a recurring job.<\/p>\n A few of the interesting ones:<\/p>\n This is basically me setting up a team member to do the things I never got around to.<\/p>\n \n \n One of the very first things we did was rebuild the website, domainnamelovers.com, and some tools.<\/p>\n Granted, I used Claude Code for some of that.<\/p>\n After the rebuild, I assigned Grok Bot to help me build out the email newsletter using beehiiv.<\/p>\n Which is crazy.<\/p>\n Great tool for newsletters, by the way.<\/em> [here’s my link<\/a> if you want to check it out, and here’s why I love beehiiv<\/a>.]<\/p>\n \n \n This part is really interesting.<\/p>\n The bots literally have their own email addresses.<\/p>\n We’re using a tool called AgentMail<\/a>, which gives your AI agents a real email inbox.<\/p>\n I’m on the paid account, currently $20 a month, so we can use our own domains.<\/p>\n We’ve sent over 100 outbound emails.<\/p>\n And when I say “we,” I mean Grok Bot.<\/p>\n \n \n We’d been warming up the email addresses. Basically, sending emails to my own accounts.<\/p>\n But even with that, we figured out a lot of our emails were probably going to spam.<\/p>\n So we paused outbound and went back to warming up the addresses.<\/p>\n The good news?<\/p>\n On October 6th, a test email went to spam in both Gmail and Workspace.<\/p>\n Now both put it in the inbox.<\/p>\n So we’re likely going to start some slow outbound again.<\/p>\n \n \n Back to the research sheet.<\/p>\n Grok Bot has graded over 500 domains as a B and over 200 as an A.<\/p>\n So far, I’ve only purchased 11.<\/p>\n The initial work was all done by Grok Bot. Then I used my gut and made the final call on what to buy.<\/p>\n A few I really like:<\/p>\n \n \n NameBio<\/a> puts out a daily list of domains that sold.<\/p>\n So I’m using it to further shape our research strategy.<\/p>\n For example, one day’s NameBio list showed $2.2 million in sales.<\/p>\n From that, two new name styles went into the hunt. One of them is short hobby and collectibles names under 15 characters.<\/p>\n So every day we do research, our AI domain investing strategy gets a little sharper.<\/p>\n \n \n Here’s what’s sort of funny.<\/p>\n AI was only supposed to save me time. (I’ve been testing it for a while, like this bike-ride chat with AI about the future of SEO<\/a>.)<\/p>\n But I feel like I’m working more now than I was before.<\/p>\n I mean that in a good way.<\/em><\/p>\n I’m interacting with and managing all these bots. It’s like I suddenly have a bunch of direct reports.<\/p>\n \n \n It felt like we were replacing a lot of hours, so I had my main Grok Bot build a timesheet dashboard.<\/p>\n Every week, it now writes up exactly what we’ve done, in detail.<\/p>\n The total since August 24th: 347 hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n In a little over a month.<\/p>\n Even at a very low wage of $10 an hour, that’s about $3,470 of work.<\/p>\n Pretty wild.<\/p>\n \n \n I’m going to keep using Grok Bot for AI domain investing, and for everything else as well.<\/p>\n There’s still about five months left on the AI domain investing test, and still no sales.<\/p>\n Keep watching.
