The show\u2019s first Super Bowl Night featured music associated with past halftime performers.<\/p>\n<p>The 2001 film cast Stiles as Sara Johnson, an aspiring ballerina who moves to Chicago after her mother\u2019s death. Bruno Tonioli praised her interpretation and characterization as well as the dancing, calling it \u201cyour best one so far,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/1297039\/dancing-with-the-stars-super-bowl-night-2026-scores-eliminated-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TV Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Derek Hough brought Stiles over for a hug after the performance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/creative-content\/tv-shows\/dancing-with-the-stars-week-5-elimination-super-bowl-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TheWrap<\/a> reported. Carrie Ann Inaba praised the confidence and grit she brought to the floor, while Hough told her, \u201cI feel like we all were waiting for that and you did not disappoint!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inaba, Hough and Tonioli each awarded an eight. During her solo, he appeared behind Sosa holding his jacket in the same pose his character, Derek, struck while watching Sara\u2019s audition in the movie, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/articles\/julia-stiles-brought-save-last-115101000.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For The Win<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas also praised Stiles in a video shared by the show\u2019s official Instagram account. He said he was delighted to be there and that she had brought their experience of making the movie back into the ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>His support began before the competition. During the Sept. 2 cast announcement on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/julia-stiles-gets-surprise-message-former-stars-ahead-136142928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Good Morning America<\/a>, Thomas and fellow <em>Save the Last Dance<\/em> cast member Kerry Washington surprised Stiles with recorded messages.<\/p>\n<p>Washington recalled her abilities on the set and warned the other contestants to watch out. Thomas jokingly used Sara\u2019s fictional acceptance into Juilliard as evidence that Stiles could handle the new challenge.<\/p>\n<h2>Stiles Said the Movie Made Her Self-Conscious About Dance Classes<\/h2>\n<p>During a Sept. 21 appearance on <em>The Jennifer Hudson Show<\/em>, Stiles explained that she had largely kept her dancing at home after the film. She said feeling watched had discouraged her from attending classes, and joining the competition was partly an attempt to recover her enjoyment and confidence, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/parade.com\/news\/julia-stiles-reveals-why-shes-ready-to-dance-again-on-dancing-with-the-stars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a professional dancer. I\u2019m an actress who played pretend in a movie,\u201d she told Hudson. Stiles said a double performed substantial portions of the ballet, including pointe work, while she performed the hip-hop and club sequences herself.<\/p>\n<p>In the new EW interview, Stiles said she now feels more comfortable in her own skin when looking back at her younger self.<\/p>\n<p>Stiles and Sosa advanced to the next round.
