Everything else has a price, even when the sachet itself does not.

4 free sample programs with no purchase and no survey

SampleSource

SampleSource is the closest thing to the thing people search for. Its FAQ lists what it ships: “Makeup, beauty care products, household cleaning products, health products, food products”. The samples go out “absolutely free” in a flat box built to fit a mail slot.

It does not run all year. The FAQ says samples come “in the Spring, Summer, and Fall (we do not send samples in the Winter because they may freeze in the mail)”. When an offer period opens, stock is “first ordered and confirmed”, so speed decides it, and the limit is one package per household, address, email and IP.

The catch is patience and data. SampleSource says to allow 4 to 6 weeks, and its footer carries a “Do Not Sell My Info” link, which tells you the business model. Its privacy notice says the site is not intended for children under 13.

Members rate it well: 4.9 on Trustpilot from 1,539 reviews, read on 13 October 2026. The Better Business Bureau holds no rating for it either way, because it says it has too little information.

Worth it? Yes. It is the only name here that mails makeup for nothing, asks for no review and publishes its rules plainly.

Send Me a Sample

Send Me a Sample works through a voice assistant and nothing else. Its FAQ is blunt about it: “Send Me a Sample is only available via voice assistant. We cannot take orders via email, post, phone or carrier pigeon.” In the US that means Amazon Alexa.

You say the brand’s campaign name when you see its logo, and the sample ships. The company is registered in England and says it has 1.8 million users worldwide.

On cost, the FAQ says: “Nothing. It is completely free! No catches. There’s no cost to you because brands want you to try their products.”

Two limits matter. Allow 28 days for delivery, and your answers at sign-up decide which campaigns you see — the FAQ warns “you may not be eligible for all our campaigns”. Its sales pages sell brands “first party opt-in data collection”, so your profile is the payment.

Worth it? Yes, if you own an Alexa device. Without one there is no way in, and the beauty campaigns come and go.

The two waits are the companies’ own estimates, from the SampleSource FAQ and the Send Me a Sample FAQ, read 13 October 2026. The user figure is Send Me a Sample’s own claim about itself. The kiosk count was reported by Kiosk Marketplace in May 2025.

Daily Goodie Box

Daily Goodie Box promises more than sachets: “We’ll send you a box of free samples and full size products and all you do is let us know what you think.” It is US residents only, and the terms set the age at 18 or over.

The review is not optional. Its terms say that “in exchange for any Goodie Boxes received by you, you will submit a truthful review of any products contained in a Goodie Box”, and that the review “should clearly and conspicuously state that you received the reviewed item for free”. You also license those reviews to the company permanently.

Selection is at the company’s discretion, so signing up is an application, not an order. Registering also means consenting to email and text messages. The operator is LUXEads Pty Ltd.

Worth it? Yes, if you will actually write the reviews. Boxes lean toward snacks and household goods, so treat makeup as a bonus.

Freeosk

This one is not by mail, and that is the point of including it. Freeosk runs sampling kiosks inside stores: “You can scan to get a sample from the Freeosk each and every week, while supplies last.” One sample per kiosk, per week, through its app.

Kiosk Marketplace reported in May 2025 that Freeosk had 589 locations at Sam’s Club and over 100 under the Wakefern banner, which covers ShopRite and Fresh Grocer. Its terms set the age at 18 or over. The brand’s own site dates the idea to 2010.

Note the domain. freeosk.com serves a parked page; the live site is thefreeosk.com.

Worth it? Only if one of those stores is on your route. The samples skew grocery, but beauty and personal care turn up.

4 panels that mail free products, makeup among them, if you review them

A panel does not take orders. You build a profile, brands pick the profiles they want, and a box arrives if you match. Nothing is bought, but nothing is guaranteed either, and only the first three below send beauty often enough to join for it.

Influenster

Influenster is the best-known of these, and beauty is its core: its own navigation splits into Beauty Sets, Eye, Face, Hair, Lip, Nail and Skin. Boxes are called VoxBoxes, “packages filled with these freebies, just waiting for your considered opinions”.

Selection is by profile, and the company tells you so: “We choose products we know you will love, based on what you shared on the app.” Its terms set the minimum age at 16 and allow one VoxBox per household address per program. The homepage claims 7 million members.

Its scores disagree with each other more than any other name here, which is worth seeing before you sign up. Our Influenster review goes through the app itself.

Read the same day from Apple’s listing, Google Play and Trustpilot. The three are not measured the same way: Apple shows a lifetime average of in-app prompts, Play weights recent reviews, and a Trustpilot score weights recency and how often reviews arrive. The counts matter too, and 130 self-selected reviews is a far smaller crowd than 58,571 rating taps.

Worth it? Yes, as a background entry. Fill the profile in properly, review what you already own, and treat a box as luck rather than a plan.

PINCHme

PINCHme works on release days: new products appear, you apply, and qualification notice comes “typically within 7-10 days of applying”. Brands target members “based on where you shop, where you live, the members of your household (including pets), your interests, your age or gender”.

Its two surfaces do not agree on price. The homepage says a box “ships 100% free” once you reach 4 products.

The help center still says “PINCHme coins are used to ship your orders. To check out a box, you will need 500 PINCHme coins”, and that coins can be bid to improve your odds. Read both before you plan around either.

Delivery is slow and final: allow “at least 4-6 weeks”, there is no tracking, and you cannot cancel or return an order. Household accounts are capped at two. Our PINCHme review covers what the boxes hold.

PINCHme’s counts are exact, from the data table on its Trustpilot profile, and sum to its published total of 1,413. Read 13 October 2026.

Worth it? Mixed. The makeup is real, but the coin economy, the missing tracking and a Better Business Bureau rating of F put it below SampleSource.

BzzAgent

BzzAgent is invitation-only and says so: “When we think you’d be a great fit for a campaign, we’ll send you an email with more information and a link to apply!” If no email comes, you were not selected. It runs through PowerReviews, whose sampling address members are told to whitelist.

When you are picked, the sample ships 1 to 3 weeks later. The obligation is heavier than elsewhere: you must use the product, then “submit your honest review (as per that campaign’s Posting Instructions) to share your experience with your friends, followers, and other consumers”.

Its terms page carries almost no text, so there is no published age or country rule to quote.

Worth it? Yes if you post reviews anyway. If you will not share publicly, the campaigns dry up fast.

Home Tester Club

Home Tester Club is run by The Brand Power Company and is free to join: “All we expect from our members in return is honesty!” Its homepage counters read 6.18 million testers and 7.75 million reviews.

Getting picked takes two things: a pre-qualifying survey for each test, and standing. The site says it takes “Home Tester Club points and badges into consideration when selecting members”, and invites its 20 most active members each month to a bonus test.

Be honest about the fit. The club describes itself as best for grocery ratings, and the test running on 13 October 2026 was dog treats. One thing to flag: the terms linked from the US site are dated May 2021 and say the site is for residents of eight European countries, which does not match the US sign-up.

Read the same day: SampleSource, PINCHme, Daily Goodie Box, Home Tester Club and Influenster. The review counts are not alike, and neither are the profiles: SampleSource’s and Influenster’s are unclaimed, Daily Goodie Box’s was claimed in 2019 and Home Tester Club’s in 2022. Send Me a Sample, Freeosk and BzzAgent have no Trustpilot profile we could find.

Worth it? Marginal for makeup. Join it for household and food tests and take beauty as a bonus.

3 brands that mail free skincare and hair samples

Brand-run sampling is the quietest route and often the fastest. A brand wants your email address and a chance to convert you, so it sends the sachet itself rather than queueing you behind a panel. Offers rotate, so bookmark the hub rather than one sachet.

La Roche-Posay

La Roche-Posay, owned by L’Oréal, publishes the clearest sampling terms in beauty. Its campaign terms state “No Purchase Required” and open the offer to “legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, 18+”, with the note that the offer is “not valid for residents of Puerto Rico”.

The limit is one offer per person, while supplies last, and the brand reserves the right to withdraw an offer at any time. Several sample pages run at once, covering sunscreen, a vitamin C serum and face moisturizers, so there is usually more than one sachet to claim.

Worth it? Yes. It is skincare rather than color cosmetics, but no other brand states its rules this plainly.

CeraVe

CeraVe, also a L’Oréal brand, runs a rolling sample form on its own site — on 13 October 2026 the banner offered a premium sample of its anti-dandruff hydrating shampoo, and separate pages offered a sample bundle and an AM facial moisturizer.

The form states the deal in one line: you confirm you are a US resident and agree to the terms, the marketing disclosure and the privacy notice. That is the price — an email opt-in and a marketing profile. The brand’s own guidance says to allow 4 to 6 weeks.

Worth it? Yes. Two sachets a season, no purchase, and the only real cost is inbox clutter you can unsubscribe from.

OUAI

OUAI is the rare hair brand that lists sample packettes at $0 and lets you add them to a cart. Its free-samples collection has included a detox shampoo packette and a shampoo and conditioner pair for medium hair.

The sachet is free; the postage is not. The cart’s own banner counts down to free shipping at $50, so in practice these ride along with an order. That is why this one sits apart from the ten that cost nothing.

Worth it? Only alongside something you were buying. As a standalone order the postage costs more than the sachet is worth.

5 free samples that come with an order

This is the group the search results blur into the first one. The sachets are genuinely free, but a purchase unlocks them, and the minimum spend is the whole story.

Sephora

Sephora runs the most generous of these. Its customer service page on samples states that every online merchandise order can carry two free samples, one of each, picked during checkout from the Pick Your Free Samples section. There is no minimum order named.

Beauty Insider, its rewards program, is free, and its terms set eligibility at US or Canadian residents “at least 16 years old (or 18 years old if you are a legal resident of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, or New Jersey)”. The birthday gift is covered below.

One claim repeated everywhere is worth correcting: Sephora publishes no in-store sample limit. The widely quoted “three samples per visit” is not in Sephora’s own words, and staff decide. If you want Sephora products without paying, our guide to free Sephora gift cards is the better route.

Worth it? Yes. Two samples on any order, with no spend floor, is the best sample rule any US beauty retailer publishes.

Lancôme

Lancôme‘s terms promise complimentary samples with every order, stated as three, chosen at checkout. Promotions come and go on top of that, usually a fragrance sample tied to buying from a particular line.

What Lancôme does not have is a sign-up that mails you a sachet for nothing. Its headline gift sets — the kind advertised at a $192 value — need $55 of spend.

Worth it? Yes, but only as a reason to pick Lancôme’s own site over a department store when you were buying anyway.

Clinique

Clinique builds the sample step into the basket itself: one panel invites you to “Choose Free Samples”, another to add a complimentary gift. When stock is there, it is the easiest sample claim in this group.

Stock is the problem. On 13 October 2026 both panels said no samples and no gifts were available, and invited shoppers to check back. Treat it as a step at checkout, not a reason to order.

Worth it? Only as a bonus. The step exists on every order, but an empty sample drawer is common.

Macy’s

Macy’s advertises free cosmetic samples prominently, and every one of them is gated by spend. Its own offer titles name the thresholds: three free samples with a $75 online beauty purchase, a 15-piece sampler with any $150 beauty purchase.

Star Rewards, the loyalty program, is free to join at the Bronze tier and lists “birthday surprises” among its benefits. Macy’s never says what the surprise is, so there is nothing to plan around.

Worth it? Only if $75 of beauty was already in your basket. The samplers are large, but they are a discount dressed as a freebie.

Nordstrom

Nordstrom sets the highest bar of the five: deluxe samples from brands including Augustinus Bader, La Mer and OSEA once you spend $250 in beauty and fragrance.

Its genuinely free offer is in store, not online. Nordstrom’s beauty services pages list free makeovers and skincare consultations, and give one example in which a 15-minute complexion service sends you home with a 10-day supply to try. The Nordy Club is free to join and has a birthday perk, though Nordstrom does not publish what the perk contains.

Worth it? Skip the $250 tier. Book the free in-store service instead, which is the one part of Nordstrom beauty that costs nothing.

4 birthday gifts worth joining for

A birthday gift is the only free beauty with a date on it. Four of the five below get their own entry; Sephora’s sits with its order samples above, under the same rewards program. Only Ulta’s and Sephora’s arrive as a product; the other three pay points or a coupon. Read the redemption rule, because that is where the purchase hides.

Ulta Beauty

Ulta Beauty Rewards — renamed from Ultamate Rewards — is free, and its terms are unusually open: “You must be age 13 years or older and a resident of the United States to be eligible for membership”, with a parent’s consent under 18.

The birthday rule is the one to quote: “No purchase is necessary when redeeming your birthday gift in store.” Online or for pickup, Ulta requires a purchase subtotaling greater than $0. The gifts themselves are named as deluxe samples and travel sizes, with ten to choose from.

Two practical notes. Your birthday has to be on your profile before your birthday month, and in-store redemption needs the coupon code from the app or your birthday email. Ulta’s 21+ Days of Beauty, which page one often lists here, is a 50% off sale, not a sample event.

Worth it? Yes, and it is the single best free item on this page. No purchase in store, a real travel size, and the lowest joining age of any program here.

bareMinerals

bareMinerals Good Rewards is free and open to residents of the 50 states and the District of Columbia who are 16 or older, with no purchase necessary to join.

The birthday benefit is where it falls short of Ulta. The terms say members “are eligible to receive points as a birthday gift depending on your Member Tier Level”, and that you must wait at least 30 days from sign-up. The per-tier values are not published, and the brand’s old birthday gift product page now returns a 404.

Worth it? Only as a free account. Points are not a sample, and nothing here tells you what they are worth.

Sally Beauty

Sally Beauty Rewards is free to join for US and Puerto Rico residents aged 16 or over, and pays $5 back for every $50 spent.

Birthday members get an extra $5 reward, or $10 with the store credit card. The terms attach the condition that decides it: a minimum purchase is required to redeem, it is valid once, and it must be used in your birthday month.

Worth it? Only if you buy hair supplies there anyway. A coupon you can only spend is not a free sample.

The Body Shop

The Body Shop‘s US Love Your Body Club pays a $10 birthday reward, valid for one month during your birthday month.

The condition is the strictest on this page: customers must have made at least one purchase on an active account before they are eligible for a birthday reward. Note also that the terms page on thebodyshop.com is the UK one, which sets a £5 reward and a UK residency rule — it does not describe the US program.

Worth it? No, not on its own. Join after a purchase you were making, never in the hope of a free gift.

What the search results still recommend that is gone

Beauty sampling churns, and the lists that rank for this search have not kept up. Every row below was checked on 13 October 2026.

One more worth knowing: the Walmart Beauty Box still exists and still ships 6 to 7 products a season, but it costs $8.98 a quarter. It is a cheap box, not a free sample.

Bottom line: If a list names P&G Good Everyday, Smiley360 or a Condé Nast beauty panel, it has not been checked. Start from the twenty above instead.

How to stop paying full price for the full size

Samples are small on purpose. When one works and you buy the full size, the cheapest route is a cash back site, which hands back a share of the commission the store pays it. It takes one click before you shop and changes nothing about the price you see.

TopCashback is the simplest of them: its own site says “We pass 100% of this commission back to you as Cash Back”, lists over 7,000 retailers and cashes out with no minimum. Rakuten covers 3,500+ stores by its own count, and its welcome bonus needs $25 of qualifying spend within 90 days, not just a sign-up. Every judgment was partly or wholly suspended, so the sums are what the courts entered, not what was collected. The F9 figure is taken from the signed order: the FTC’s own press release prints it with a typo.

The pattern repeats across every case. In its November 2017 action against the Tarr, Inc. network, the FTC said consumers were offered wrinkle creams and supplements for $4.95 shipping and then billed about $87 a month. The court entered a $179 million judgment, suspended after about $6.4 million was paid, and the FTC later mailed 227,995 refund checks averaging $26.57.

A year earlier, marketers behind Auravie and LéOR Skincare faced $72.7 million in judgments over recurring charges of up to $97.88 a month. In 2023 the FTC won a lifetime ban on negative-option marketing against the operator of Vita Luminance and Derma Vibrance, with a judgment of $34,081,073.

The trial price and the monthly charge are from the FTC’s November 2017 release on the Tarr, Inc. network; the refund count from its February 2019 mailing, which averaged $26.57 a check. The complaint rate is the FTC’s own tally in its March 2026 proposed rule, up from at least 33 a day in late 2020. A refund count is not a count of everyone affected.

The rules got weaker, not stronger. The FTC’s 2024 “click to cancel” amendments were vacated by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025 on procedural grounds, which put the 1973 rule back in force from 12 February 2026. The FTC’s own words on that rule: it “applies only to prenotification plans for the sale of goods and does not reach most modern negative option marketing”.

Bottom line: No program on this page asks for a card. If a “free sample” page wants card details for shipping, read the terms for a recurring charge before you type anything.

Why beauty brands mail samples for nothing

Sampling is not generosity, and the companies say so in their filings. Estée Lauder’s own Form 10-K puts it plainly: “Sampling is a key promotional activity as it allows consumers to experience product quality and perceived benefits directly, and as such sample products are very effective inducements to purchases by new and existing consumers.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.dollarbreak.com/images/free-makeup-samples-ad-spend-ef0bd1e9.png" alt="Advertising takes 22% to 32% of these beauty owners' sales (Advertising and promotion as a share of sales, newest full year each files): L'Oreal 32.2% (2025 calendar year, EUR14.2bn); Coty 27.7% (year to 30 Jun 2026, $1.61bn); Estee Lauder 24.8% (year to 30 Jun 2026, $3.73bn); e.l.f. The other three are our arithmetic on figures in their own filings: Coty ($1,607.1m of $5,806.6m), Estee Lauder ($3,726m of $15,049m) and e.l.f. Beauty ($361.3m of $1,636.5m). All four are brand owners, so the share is comparable, but the year-ends and currencies are not: read it as the scale of the budget, not a league table. None of them discloses what sampling alone costs.

The budgets behind that sentence are enormous. L’Oréal’s 2025 results put advertising and promotion at €14.18 billion, 32.2% of sales. Estée Lauder spent $3.73 billion on advertising, marketing, promotion and product development in the year to 30 June 2026, about a quarter of its net sales.

No company discloses what sampling alone costs. Estée Lauder’s accounting note explains why the number is hard to find: the cost of samples and testers sits in cost of sales, not in the advertising line.

For the stores, the currency is your profile rather than your attention. That is what a birthday gift buys.

Ulta’s three figures are from its Form 10-K for the year to 31 January 2026, and the member and sales figures cover Ulta’s US business. Its advertising expense is a retailer’s media spend, so it is not comparable with a brand owner’s share of sales. Sephora’s is its own claim in a January 2026 press release, for North America, not an audited number; LVMH publishes no Sephora revenue or member figure of its own.

Ulta’s Form 10-K for the year to 31 January 2026 reports more than 46 million members and about 95% of total sales coming from members in its US business. Sephora said in January 2026 that Beauty Insider reached more than 45 million members in North America.

Bottom line: The sachet is an advertising line item and the birthday gift is a data cost. A review can fall into two subjects, so each subject count is a floor. This is a sample of the newest reviews, not the lifetime rating, and the same listing’s lifetime average is 4.77 from 58,571 ratings.

The Influenster count above shows the gap between a lifetime score and a current one. Its App Store listing averages 4.77 from 58,571 ratings, but of the 100 newest written US reviews, dated 5 March to 8 October 2026, only 41 gave five stars and 29 gave one. Twenty mention never being offered a campaign.

The Better Business Bureau files are harder reading. PINCHme Group, Inc. holds an F rating, driven by failure to respond to 27 of 29 complaints on file, which the BBB counts over a three-year period.

Influenster, Inc. holds a D-, with 8 complaints unanswered. SampleSource is not rated, because the BBB says it has too little information to issue one.

Of the 15 PINCHme complaints the BBB publishes, 5 are filed under Sales and Advertising, 4 under Customer Service, 3 under Product, 2 under Delivery and 1 under Billing. That is a sample of the 29, not a rate. An F driven by non-response is a sign of how a company handles complaints, not proof that boxes do not ship.

Bottom line: Judge these programs on how they answer when something goes wrong. Where a retailer’s site refused to open, the wording is attributed to the page it sits on rather than quoted as read, which applies to Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Lancôme.

Ratings were read the same day from the App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot so that they compare, and the review and complaint counts are our own tallies of published pages, each described where it appears. SampleSource, Send Me a Sample and Daily Goodie Box all mail free products with nothing to buy, and brands such as La Roche-Posay and CeraVe run their own no-purchase sample forms. Allow four to six weeks.

Which free makeup samples need no surveys?

SampleSource asks only for a short profile and no survey per offer. La Roche-Posay and CeraVe ask for a form and an email address. Panels such as Home Tester Club and Influenster are the opposite: a pre-qualifying survey or a profile is how they pick you.

Is there a free makeup sample box?

Yes, three of them. SampleSource mails a seasonal box, Daily Goodie Box mails samples and full-size products in exchange for a review, and PINCHme lets you build a box from the products you qualify for. None is makeup only.

Do free makeup samples come with free shipping?

From a sample program, yes: SampleSource, Send Me a Sample, Daily Goodie Box and the brand sample forms all ship at no cost. From a brand store it depends — OUAI lists packettes at $0 but charges postage under $50. Any page asking for a card to cover shipping is a trial offer, not a sample.

Where can you get free skincare samples without a purchase in the USA?

La Roche-Posay publishes the clearest terms: no purchase required, 18 or over, the 50 states but not Puerto Rico, one offer per person. CeraVe runs rolling sample forms for US residents. Both are owned by L’Oréal, and both rotate which product is on offer.

How do you get free hair product samples by mail?

There are fewer than the search results suggest. OUAI lists shampoo and conditioner packettes at $0, SampleSource includes hair care in its seasonal boxes, and Ulta’s birthday gift choices have included dry shampoo and hair gloss travel sizes.

Curly hair products samples are a matter of luck rather than a program: the hair brands named most often, among them Pantene, Head & Shoulders, MONDAY Haircare and Function of Beauty, publish no sample page at all. OUAI and SampleSource are the two routes that can turn one up.

Source link

Free makeup samples come from three different places, and only one of them is truly no-strings.
