One person was killed when two gliders collided in mid-air in upstate New York on Friday afternoon, New York State Police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Police were called to respond to a report of a mid-air collision at around 2:26 p.m. on Friday, the statement said. Just over two hours later, police said investigators discovered debris “in a remote area, off of Sand Lake Road in Edinburg” in Saratoga County.<\/p>\n

“Two glider planes collided in the air. One plane landed safely at the nearby Plateau Sky Ranch Airport, and the pilot was uninjured,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

The pilot of the second plane “was the only person in the aircraft at the time of the collision” and was “discovered deceased at the crash site,” police added.<\/p>\n

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the incident and the investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n
