Floyd Mayweather’s middle-of-the-night workout habit apparently survived retirement. The gloves have simply been replaced by a basketball.<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old former boxing champion showed up at a Las Vegas gym around 2 a.m. for a pickup game and stayed on the court for hours, according to video obtained by TMZ Sports<\/a>. By the time the run wrapped, it was roughly 5 a.m.<\/p>\n

Mayweather was not standing around for the cameras. The footage shows him getting into the paint and scoring multiple times during the games, extending a basketball habit that has followed him well beyond his years as boxing’s biggest pay-per-view attraction.<\/p>\n

The hour may look strange for a casual pickup run, but it is familiar territory for Mayweather. Late-night gym sessions, 3 a.m. workouts and even middle-of-the-night basketball were part of his routine long before he retired from professional boxing with a 50-0 record.<\/p>\n

The games took place at The Gem of Las Vegas, a basketball training facility not far from the Strip. Mayweather arrived around 2 a.m. and joined the pickup action, with the session continuing until sometime around 5. The Gem<\/a> says the facility operates 24 hours a day and offers full-court, half-court and separate training-court rentals.<\/p>\n

TMZ’s footage catches Mayweather finishing around the basket more than once. He is moving through an ordinary pickup game with the other players defending him and continuing the run around him. TMZ described Mayweather as still being in fighting shape despite no longer competing professionally. <\/p>\n

Late-Night Training Has Been a Mayweather Habit for Years<\/h2>\n

Four in the morning would have been an unusual training hour for most fighters. For Mayweather, it was close to routine. Long before retirement, ESPN<\/a> documented 3 a.m. pool workouts during his preparation for Manny Pacquiao in 2015.<\/p>\n

On another night, Mayweather summoned his crew around 11:30 p.m., arrived at the gym at approximately 1:30 a.m. and trained for another two hours. Members of Mayweather’s security team would receive calls at 2 or 3 a.m. to accompany him to an athletic club for weights and basketball.<\/p>\n
