Commissions ranged from 5% to 15%, and the sales added up fast.<\/p>\n By the time I graduated high school, that single site had generated over six figures in sales through Amazon. I was hooked.<\/p>\n After the Amazon success, I discovered CPA (cost-per-action) marketing. Instead of needing someone to pull out a credit card, I could earn a commission just by getting them to fill out a form, sign up for a free trial, or complete a survey.<\/p>\n This was a game changer. Just viral traffic and good timing.<\/p>\n I was offered a buyout, but I didn\u2019t like the deal or the company proposing it. So I kept the site, rode it out, and watched it eventually fade as Facebook took over. By then, I was already onto the next thing.<\/p>\n After years of being \u201cjust an affiliate marketer\u201d behind the scenes, I decided to step out and build a personal brand. In 2007, I launched ZacJohnson.com.<\/p>\n The goal wasn\u2019t to sell anything. Relying entirely on someone else\u2019s platform is a recipe for disaster \u2014 I\u2019ve seen it happen to others, and I\u2019ve experienced it myself.<\/p>\n Keep experimenting.<\/strong> Most things won\u2019t work. That\u2019s fine. You only need a few winners. But you\u2019ll never find them if you stop testing.<\/p>\n Play the long game.<\/strong> I\u2019ve been doing this for nearly 30 years.
