During the first season of <em>Full House<\/em>, one of them suddenly handled a scene that lasted for minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin recently revisited \u201cMad Money,\u201d the episode in which Jesse secretly works as an Elvis Presley impersonator while Joey receives a $5,000 savings bond. Franklin directed the episode himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was Ashley,\u201d Franklin told <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/full-house-creator-reveals-the-moment-mary-kate-and-ashley-olsen-left-him-jaw-dropped-on-set-12077057\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PEOPLE<\/a>. He remembered the young performer hitting her cues, staying in character and landing the jokes without looking at the camera, boom microphone or studio audience.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin called the performance \u201cmiraculous\u201d and \u201cjaw dropping.\u201d He had already singled out the same episode years earlier, telling viewers in 2017 to watch a 16 month old Michelle perform an extended comedy scene.<\/p>\n<h2>One Olsen Twin Stayed in Character for Minutes<\/h2>\n<p><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Olsen twins telling apart on Full House - Season 1 - Mad Money\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HW4AfpRavB8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Franklin said it was the first time the production had one of the twins play such a long scene. Instead of supplying a quick reaction or brief moment as Michelle, the child remained involved for several minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey hit all their cues, played the scene, never looked at the camera, never looked up at the boom, never looked at the audience, stayed in character, hit every joke,\u201d Franklin told PEOPLE.<\/p>\n<p>He remembered watching the scene and thinking, \u201cHow is this possible?\u201d Franklin said the young performer had the audience \u201cin the palm of her hand\u201d even though she was only about 1 year old.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin believes Ashley performed the scene, but he did not identify her with certainty. Mary-Kate and Ashley both played Michelle throughout the original series and are both credited in \u201cMad Money.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Mad Money\u2019 Also Featured Their Mothers<\/h2>\n<p>The episode gave Franklin and John Stamos a chance to put members of their own families on camera. Their mothers appeared during Jesse\u2019s nightclub performance as he worked as an Elvis Presley impersonator to earn money for his band\u2019s demo.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin remembered directing the cameos with Stamos before turning to the Michelle scene in his recent interview. \u201cMad Money\u201d aired April 29, 1988, and <a href=\"https:\/\/tv.apple.com\/us\/episode\/mad-money\/umc.cmc.5ijd5njbtmf8q5f8g1kw6b6bg?showId=umc.cmc.33kdfqj36d5vouib0vksfsegr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple TV<\/a> lists it as Season 1, Episode 21.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin had also directed viewers back to the episode in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/inside-secrets-scandals-legacy-full-house-creator-jeff-140025425.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017 reflection on <em>Full House<\/em><\/a>. At the time, he described watching Mary-Kate and Ashley develop into young actresses before they were 2 and specifically cited \u201cMad Money\u201d as an example.<\/p>\n<h2>Mary-Kate and Ashley Left Acting Behind<\/h2>\n<p><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Row Interview | NET-A-PORTER\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hHMTgaex5eE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Mary-Kate and Ashley continued sharing the role of Michelle until <em>Full House<\/em> ended in 1995. They then starred together in television projects and movies including <em>It Takes Two<\/em>, <em>Double, Double, Toil and Trouble<\/em> and <em>New York Minute<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The sisters later moved away from acting and built their fashion careers around The Row. Their decision also kept Michelle out of Netflix\u2019s <em>Fuller House<\/em>, which reunited many members of the original cast from 2016 through 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Jodie Sweetin said earlier this year that the sisters did not return because acting is no longer what they love.
