Despite his lengthy history of railing against mail-in voting, President Donald Trump voted by mail in Florida\u2019s primary election being held Tuesday<\/a> — the second time voting by mail in the state this year.<\/p>\n “As everyone knows, the President is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C. This is a non-story,” White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said in response to ABC News’ request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n President Donald Trump speaks in the Oval Office, at the White House in Washington, August 17, 2026.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Kylie Cooper\/Reuters<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n “As President Trump has said, the SAVE America Act has commonsense exceptions for Americans to use mail-in ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel — but universal mail-in voting should not be allowed because it’s highly susceptible to fraud,” the statement also read.<\/p>\n The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility\u00a0— or the SAVE America Act — also requires voter ID at the ballot box and proof of citizenship to register.<\/p>\n The White House’s statement is identical to the statement the White House provided to ABC News in March when the president cast a mail ballot in a Florida state house special election.<\/p>\n Politico\u00a0reported\u00a0on Monday that voting records, which appear to be private, show Trump requested a ballot in late July and returned it on Aug. 13. The Palm Beach County supervisor of elections told ABC News that the president’s voter information is not being made public.\u00a0<\/p>\n The White House also said Trump has not been to Florida in months.\u00a0<\/p>\n This all comes as Trump continues to put pressure on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would place new requirements and restrictions on mail\u2013in voting. The president has long criticized mail-in voting as a form of cheating, calling them \u201ccrooked as hell\u201d during an event last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n An analysis\u00a0from the Brookings Institution<\/a>\u00a0from November 2025 found that voter fraud is rare in voting by mail.<\/p>\n Trump has repeatedly called on senators to pass the SAVE America Act, insisting since March that he will not sign any legislation until it is sent to his desk.
