Jon Batiste has canceled three consecutive concerts while navigating what he described only as \u201cpersonal circumstances.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The cancellations cover his Aug. 13 performance at Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut; the Aug. 14 show at TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia; and his Aug. 15 appearance at Forest Hills Stadium in New York.<\/p>\n
Batiste emphasized that he was canceling only \u201ca portion\u201d of his scheduled performances. His next listed concert is Aug. 20 with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center, followed by dates in Virginia and Georgia, although he has not separately issued a new statement confirming that each later performance will proceed.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes as Batiste prepares to release Monk Meditations<\/em> and Monk Movements<\/em> on Aug. 14. He said work surrounding the albums would continue while his team looked for additional ways to share live music.<\/p>\n \u201cAs I navigate some personal circumstances, I unfortunately need to cancel a portion of my upcoming performance dates,\u201d Batiste said in a message shared by Westville Music Bowl<\/a>.<\/p>\n Westville Music Bowl lists the Aug. 13 New Haven show as canceled. The venue said tickets and advance parking purchased through authorized outlets would be refunded through the original point of purchase rather than transferred to a replacement date.<\/p>\n The AXS page for Forest Hills Stadium<\/a> likewise lists the Aug. 15 performance as canceled and carries Batiste\u2019s statement to ticket holders. \u201cRefunds will be available through the original point of purchase,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Batiste ended the cancellation message by thanking fans for their patience. \u201cThank you for your understanding and continued support,\u201d he said. \u201cI truly can\u2019t wait to come back and perform for you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n Batiste\u2019s next scheduled appearance is an Aug. 20 performance with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The Cleveland Orchestra\u2019s event page<\/a> remained active on Aug. 13 and continued to advertise the concert with conductor Jonathan Taylor Rush.<\/p>\n The following night, Batiste is scheduled to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra at Wolf Trap\u2019s Filene Center in Vienna, Virginia. The Wolf Trap listing<\/a> still shows the Aug. 21 concert and marks it as sold out, with a wait list available.<\/p>\n An Aug. 23 performance with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra at Synovus Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park also remains listed. That concert had previously been moved from April 25 because of inclement weather.<\/p>\n Further dates remain scheduled in September and October, including appearances at the Cura\u00e7ao North Sea Jazz Festival and other U.S. venues. His Oct. 3 headlining concert at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley<\/a> also remains on the venue\u2019s calendar and is currently marked sold out.<\/p>\n Batiste specifically said the rollout of Monk Meditations<\/em> and Monk Movements<\/em> would continue despite the three canceled concerts. Both projects are part of his Batiste Piano Series and reinterpret the work and influence of jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk.<\/p>\n Monk Meditations<\/em> takes the more reflective approach, expanding Monk compositions and Monk-inspired material into longer solo-piano pieces with a quieter, classically structured feel. Its track list includes \u201cReflections,\u201d \u201cCrepuscule With Nellie,\u201d \u201cMonk\u2019s Mood\u201d and the previously released \u201cAlways Know.\u201d<\/p>\n Monk Movements<\/em> approaches the material differently, with Batiste describing the pieces as movements rather than conventional tunes and drawing inspiration from contemporary classical composition, visual art and architecture. Its tracks include \u201cIn Walked Bud,\u201d \u201cBlue Monk,\u201d \u201cUgly Beauty\u201d and \u201cSusu\u2019s Back in Town.\u201d<\/p>\n The two Monk projects are actually part of a larger Aug. 14 release day for Batiste. Black Mozart<\/em>, another installment in the Batiste Piano Series, is also scheduled to arrive the same day.
