Two people are dead after a helicopter crashed in Salado, Texas, on Wednesday, according to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

The chopper is an AH-64 U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter that crashed in a field near Fort Hood in Texas, the U.S. Army said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The crash is still burning, but no buildings or structures were damaged, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to ABC News.<\/p>\n

“Our immediate priority is securing the site and supporting the initial response efforts,” Brig. Gen. Ethan Diven, acting commanding general, said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the crew and their families as we await further information.”<\/p>\n

The chopper is based in Fort Hood, the Army said. Apache attack helicopters are two-seater aircraft.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said it received a 911 call regarding a helicopter crash after 1:30 p.m. local time. The crash sparked a grass fire that was “out of control” when sheriff’s officers arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office confirmed this was an Apache Military helicopter.<\/p>\n
