The producers behind a new BBC documentary examining allegations against Jared Leto say Hollywood\u2019s response will reveal how much the entertainment industry has changed since the height of the MeToo movement.<\/p>\n
Executive producer Mike Radford and producer-presenter Jessica Sartenaer spoke after Leto categorically denied the claims featured in Jared Leto: Hollywood\u2019s Dark Secret<\/em>.<\/p>\n The documentary includes accounts from 10 women alleging sexually inappropriate conduct. Four describe incidents they allege amounted to criminal sexual conduct while they were teenagers. Leto has denied ever sexually assaulting anyone.<\/p>\n Radford described the allegations involving Leto as a \u201cbellwether\u201d for the MeToo movement. He argued that the reaction from film studios, music companies and other employers would demonstrate how the entertainment industry now responds when serious accusations are made against a powerful figure.<\/p>\n \u201cHow the industry responds to the allegations about Jared Leto will tell us where the industry, both music and film, stands,\u201d Radford told Deadline<\/em><\/a>. Sartenaer said allegations and rumors concerning Leto had circulated publicly for years without producing a sustained professional reckoning. \u201cPeople haven\u2019t been paying attention,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Sartenaer predicted that the wider attention generated by the BBC investigation would make the latest allegations more difficult for Leto to move past.
