Strong ended her own 11-season run in December 2022.<\/p>\n<h2>Fineman Could Imitate the People Working Beside Her<\/h2>\n<p><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Understudy - SNL\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nqZ-pNZkQFs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Strong told <a href=\"https:\/\/parade.com\/tv\/cecily-strong-gets-emotional-reflecting-on-her-saturday-night-live-career-exclusive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Parade<\/em><\/a> that Fineman\u2019s ability extended beyond celebrity impersonations. She could also reproduce the voices, expressions and mannerisms of cast members working beside her. \u201cThe fact that she had impressions of all of us was cool and scary and weird,\u201d Strong said.<\/p>\n<p>Fineman demonstrated that skill in the 2022 digital short \u201cThe Understudy,\u201d which presented her as the performer prepared to replace almost anyone who became unavailable before a live show. The sketch included impressions of Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Melissa Villase\u00f1or and Sarah Sherman.<\/p>\n<p>Fineman also attempted to impersonate guest Elizabeth Olsen after initially confusing her with that week\u2019s host, Benedict Cumberbatch. During the Strong segment, Fineman entered the studio kitchen dressed like her castmate and reproduced her clipped vocal delivery while standing directly across from her.<\/p>\n<p>Strong responded by matching the impression, leaving the two performers trading nearly identical reactions. Bryant offered Fineman notes on her posture and facial expressions, while Ego Nwodim stopped the impersonation before it could begin.<\/p>\n<h2>Strong Called Fineman\u2019s Departure \u2018Beautiful and Sad\u2019<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Da3Sg5HEQk6\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fineman announced on July 16 that she would not return for <em>SNL<\/em>\u2019s 52nd season. \u201cAfter 7 wonderful seasons at SNL I have decided it\u2019s time for my next chapter,\u201d she wrote in her farewell message.<\/p>\n<p>Fineman joined the show as a featured player ahead of its 45th season in 2019 and became a repertory cast member in 2021. She built much of her early reputation around impressions of celebrities including Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Jennifer Coolidge, Nicole Kidman, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet and Meryl Streep.<\/p>\n<p>She called working on the show \u201cthe greatest privilege\u201d of her life and thanked creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, along with the writers, performers, producers, costume designers and crew members responsible for assembling each episode. Fineman also joked about how emotionally invested cast members could become in sketches that were later cut from the broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou sob uncontrollably when your sketch isn\u2019t picked,\u201d she wrote. \u201cYou storm into a producer\u2019s office telling them they just made the biggest mistake of their lives.\u201d Years later, she added, the rejected idea might turn out to have been something called \u201clipstick for thicc dogs.\u201d Fineman said leaving was difficult but felt like the appropriate time to begin another chapter.<\/p>\n<p>Strong described an <em>SNL<\/em> departure as \u201cbeautiful and sad\u201d and said she hoped Fineman recognized everything she accomplished during her seven years at the show. \u201cThere are really fun moments that we get to have on video and get to see forever,\u201d Strong said. \u201cI revisit them all the time, and I love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Fineman\u2019s Exit Brought Back Strong\u2019s Final Night<\/h2>\n<p>Discussing Fineman\u2019s departure led Strong to reflect on her own farewell, which aired on December 17, 2022. Strong made one final appearance as Cathy Anne on \u201cWeekend Update,\u201d where the recurring character revealed that she was heading to prison. The segment allowed Strong to acknowledge her departure while remaining in character.<\/p>\n<p>Later in the episode, host Austin Butler serenaded her with \u201cBlue Christmas\u201d during a sketch set at a RadioShack. Kenan Thompson introduced Strong as a departing employee whose coworkers wanted to honor the years they had spent together.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just love these people so much, and they are hugely important parts of my life and my identity and my training as a human being,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m so, so grateful I got to know them and got to have time with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Fineman Has Already Joined a Netflix Drama<\/h2>\n<p>Fineman has joined Netflix\u2019s adaptation of Harlan Coben\u2019s <em>Myron Bolitar<\/em> novels as a series regular. She will play Parker Quinn, a sports reporter who has built a strong reputation through her work and passion for sports.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Woodell stars as Myron Bolitar, a former basketball prospect whose planned NBA career ends after an injury. He reinvents himself as a sports agent and becomes involved in dangerous investigations surrounding his clients.<\/p>\n<p>The cast also includes KJ Apa as Myron\u2019s business partner Win Lockwood, Diane Guerrero as former professional wrestler Esperanza Diaz and Jabari Banks as tennis prodigy Dwayne Richmond.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/myron-bolitar-series-harlan-coben\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix confirmed<\/a> that production has begun in New York City.
