The Supreme Court on Monday vacated contempt-of-Congress charges against ex-Trump advisor Steve Bannon, who had refused to honor a subpoena from the committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, and later served a four-month sentence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Court did not explain its decision. There were no noted dissents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a brief order, the Court noted that the Trump Justice Department has moved to drop the indictment against Bannon and returned the case to a lower court for dismissal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bannon, who served as President Donald Trump’s chief White House strategist during Trump’s first term, served a four-month prison term<\/a> after being found guilty on contempt charges following a July 2022 trial.<\/p>\n

A jury found Bannon\u00a0guilty<\/a>\u00a0on two counts of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena to testify about Jan. 6 before the House select committee that investigated the attack. In addition to serving prison time, Bannon paid a $6,500 fine.<\/p>\n
