\u201cMust be a new series being filmed lol,\u201d someone wrote on Instagram. \u201cThis gotta be a scene,\u201d said another. \u201cNaaah this is from set Reacher season 4.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t from set. Those weren\u2019t extras. The kids weren\u2019t child actors. And the man allegedly throwing punches was Alan Ritchson<\/strong> \u2014 the 6\u20193\u2033, 235-pound star who has spent four years becoming so physically indistinguishable from Jack Reacher<\/strong> that when he allegedly beat up his neighbor in Brentwood, Tennessee, the internet\u2019s first instinct wasn\u2019t shock. It was to grab popcorn.<\/p>\n

He showed up on TMZ Live Monday with bruises still on his face and one detail that landed harder than anything else: he had no idea Ritchson was famous. Didn\u2019t know the show. The two sides disagree on everything else. Taylor says he asked Ritchson to slow down and got punched in the face. He bulked up from 205, pushed so hard he needed shoulder surgery after Season 1, and underwent testosterone replacement therapy before Season 2 to maintain the frame. Season 4 \u2014 which wrapped filming late last year \u2014 reportedly features nearly 30 fight scenes. The show topped Nielsen\u2019s streaming charts. The character became the actor and the actor became the character, and at some point the line between them stopped mattering to anyone watching.<\/p>\n

Jack Reacher, as Lee Child wrote him, resolves problems the same way every time. A man significantly larger than everyone around him applies overwhelming physical force to someone who never stood a chance. It is the entire architecture of the franchise \u2014 the fantasy of a fight that\u2019s over before it starts.<\/p>\n

That is exactly what the Brentwood video looks like.<\/p>\n

And that is exactly why people assumed it was fiction. They weren\u2019t being callous. They were pattern-matching. Hours before the fight video surfaced, Ritchson posted an Instagram clip of himself in bed, singing about taking melatonin, Ativan, and Xanax to shake Australian jet lag. In the caption, he joked that he\u2019d \u201cattack today, attack my boys, attack everyone in my face.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans found the post after TMZ broke the story. \u201cWe all here from that TMZ video?\u201d someone commented. \u201cYep,\u201d another replied, \u201cthis video is probably not going to be helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n

What the Video Doesn\u2019t Show<\/h2>\n
