On Sunday, Bad Bunny performed a 13-minute halftime show at Super Bowl LX<\/strong><\/a>. He sang in Spanish. He danced. A couple got married on the field. Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin showed up. 128.2 million people watched.<\/p>\n

By Monday, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles<\/strong><\/a> was demanding Congress investigate it.<\/p>\n

A Letter, a Label, and a Leap<\/h2>\n

Ogles sent a formal letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee calling for an inquiry into the NFL and NBCUniversal. He accused Bad Bunny\u2019s set of containing \u201cexplicit displays of gay sexual acts\u201d and lyrics that \u201copenly glorified sodomy and countless other unspeakable depravities.\u201d He described the entire performance as \u201cpure smut.\u201d<\/p>\n

He named two songs specifically \u2014 \u201cSafaera\u201d and \u201cYo Perreo Sola<\/strong>\u201d \u2014 arguing their content crossed the line for broadcast television.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the part he left out: Bad Bunny didn\u2019t sing the explicit lyrics from either song. The set was cleaned up for broadcast. There were no unbleeped vulgarities. There was no nudity. There was dancing \u2014 lots of it \u2014 and guest appearances from Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga. What appears to have troubled Ogles most was the presence of queer visibility on a stage watched by 128 million people.<\/p>\n

Ogles called that gay pornography.<\/p>\n

In a separate post on X, he added that Bad Bunny\u2019s performance was \u201cconclusive proof that Puerto Rico should never be a state\u201d \u2014 a comment about a U.S. territory whose residents have been American citizens since 1917.<\/p>\n

Last night\u2019s halftime show was a disgrace and it mocked American families. Depicting gay pornography on prime time has no place in our culture.<\/p>\n

The Bad Bunny performance is conclusive proof that Puerto Rico should never be a state.<\/p>\n

What Ogles Didn\u2019t Investigate Before Writing That Letter<\/h2>\n

If Ogles is concerned about performers with explicit content appearing at nationally promoted events, he had a closer option to scrutinize.<\/p>\n

Hours before Bad Bunny took the stage, Turning Point USA aired its \u201cAll-American Halftime Show\u201d \u2014 an alternative broadcast marketed around \u201cfaith, family, and freedom.\u201d The headliner was Kid Rock.<\/p>\n

You may have already seen the viral clip \u2014 Kid Rock closed the Turning Point show by telling Americans to dust off their Bibles and give their lives to Jesus. He opened it with \u201cBawitdaba,<\/strong>\u201d a 1999 track whose recorded version references \u201ctopless dancers,\u201d \u201ccrackheads,\u201d \u201call my heroes in the methadone clinic,\u201d and \u201chookers all trickin\u2019 out in Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n

And then there\u2019s the song he didn\u2019t perform \u2014 \u201cCool, Daddy Cool,\u201d a 2001 track written for the animated children\u2019s film Osmosis Jones. It contains the lines: \u201cYoung ladies, young ladies, I like \u2019em underage, see \/ Some say that\u2019s statutory \/ But I say it\u2019s mandatory.\u201d<\/p>\n

The song had already resurfaced online and sparked a fresh wave of backlash before anyone took the field on Sunday. Kid Rock\u2019s response was a social media post quoting Kobe Bryant about \u201clearning to love the hate.\u201d He said nothing about the lyrics themselves.<\/p>\n

Ogles wrote no letter about any of this. Neither did Rep. Randy Fine of Florida, who called Bad Bunny\u2019s show \u201cillegal\u201d and ended his post with \u201clock them up\u201d \u2014 based partly on translated lyrics that Bad Bunny never actually sang on Sunday. Neither did Rep. Mark Alford of Missouri, who told Real America\u2019s Voice on Tuesday that House Republicans are already \u201cinvestigating\u201d the halftime show, despite not watching the whole thing and not speaking Spanish.<\/p>\n

None of them investigated the show they endorsed.<\/p>\n

About the Man Writing the Letters<\/h2>\n

There\u2019s a reason Ogles\u2019 name might ring a bell beyond this week. He has been the subject of investigations himself \u2014 ones with rather more substance than a halftime show complaint.<\/p>\n

Nashville\u2019s NewsChannel 5 spent years documenting discrepancies in Ogles\u2019 background. He described himself as an economist on national television. His actual degree, obtained at age 36 from Middle Tennessee State University, was a Bachelor of Science in liberal studies with a 2.4 GPA<\/strong>. A 2009 resume listed his major as international relations. His congressional biography said \u201cpolicy and economics.\u201d He blocked the university from confirming his credentials through a federal privacy provision.<\/p>\n

He claimed experience investigating international sex crimes. The Williamson County Sheriff\u2019s Office said there was \u201cnothing in Mr. Ogles\u2019 training or personnel file\u201d to support that. He had been a volunteer reserve deputy who left after two years for \u201cnot meeting minimum standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

His congressional website once said he oversaw \u201coperations and investments in 12 countries\u201d for Abolition International, a nonprofit combating human trafficking. Tax records showed the organization paid him $4,000<\/strong> total for a part-time position. The Washington Post reviewed the totality of his professional claims and concluded his resume was \u201ctoo good to be true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then came the money. Ogles reported lending his campaign $320,000<\/strong>. His financial disclosures suggested he didn\u2019t have $320,000. He later revised the figure to $20,000<\/strong>. The House Ethics Committee recommended a full investigation. The FBI executed a search warrant on his property in 2024. He was compared to former Rep. George Santos, who was expelled from Congress for fabricating large portions of his biography.<\/p>\n

Ogles was re-elected anyway. And now he\u2019s the man asking Congress to investigate a halftime show.<\/p>\n

Two Shows, One Standard<\/h2>\n

Here\u2019s what the numbers say about Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny\u2019s halftime set drew 128.2 million<\/strong> viewers on NBC \u2014 the second most-watched halftime performance ever, behind Kendrick Lamar\u2019s 133.5 million last year. Social media consumption hit four billion views within 24 hours. His Apple Music streams increased sevenfold. It was the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in Spanish-language television history, peaking at 4.8 million<\/strong> viewers on Telemundo alone.<\/p>\n

The Turning Point USA alternative peaked at 6.1<\/strong> million concurrent YouTube viewers and has since accumulated over 21 million<\/strong> total views.<\/p>\n

President Trump, who had said he wouldn\u2019t watch Bad Bunny\u2019s set, posted his review shortly after it ended. He called it \u201cabsolutely terrible\u201d and \u201can affront to the Greatness of America,\u201d adding that \u201cnobody understands a word this guy is saying.\u201d He has not commented on the Turning Point show.<\/p>\n

As of this writing, no congressional committee has formally opened any investigation into either halftime performance. The NFL and NBC have not publicly responded to Ogles\u2019 letter.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny performed the first Super Bowl halftime show sung almost entirely in Spanish. A couple got married during it. 128 million people watched.<\/p>\n
