On Monday morning, readers of the Wall Street Journal turned the page to find a full-page letter from one of the most controversial figures in American entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo Those I\u2019ve Hurt,\u201d the headline read.<\/p>\n

The author was Kanye West<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people,\u201d the rapper wrote, attributing years of erratic and inflammatory behavior to a brain injury sustained in his near-fatal 2002 car accident\u2014the same crash that inspired \u201cThrough the Wire\u201d and launched his career. He revealed that the injury to his right frontal lobe went undiagnosed for over two decades, eventually contributing to a bipolar disorder diagnosis.<\/p>\n

It was a striking admission. It was also his third public apology for antisemitic remarks since 2023.<\/p>\n

In December 2022, West sat across from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Infowars, his face obscured by a black ski mask, and said the words that would sever nearly every major business relationship he had: \u201cI like Hitler.\u201d He went further. \u201cI am a Nazi,\u201d he declared. \u201cI love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis.\u201d He denied the Holocaust.<\/p>\n

The consequences were immediate. Adidas, Balenciaga, and Gap severed ties. His net worth collapsed. For a moment, it seemed like a reckoning.<\/p>\n

Then came the first apology. In 2023, West posted a message to Instagram written in Hebrew, directed at the Jewish community.<\/p>\n

Weeks later, the tone shifted again. He announced he \u201clikes Jewish people again\u201d\u2014after watching Jonah Hill in \u201c21 Jump Street.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a barrage of posts on X, West declared, \u201cI\u2019m a Nazi,\u201d \u201cI love Hitler, now what b-tches,\u201d and invited followers to call him \u201cYadolf Yitler.\u201d In the same breath, he wrote: \u201cI\u2019m never apologizing for my Jewish comments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days later, during the Super Bowl, an ad aired on local Fox stations. West, seated in a dentist\u2019s chair, told viewers to visit Yeezy.com. The site had been selling ordinary merchandise. But after the ad ran, everything was replaced with a single item: a white T-shirt bearing a black swastika, priced at $20. The product code read \u201cHH-01\u2033\u2014which the Anti-Defamation League identified as shorthand for \u201cHeil Hitler.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shopify pulled the site within 48 hours.<\/p>\n

Three months later, in May 2025, West posted five words: \u201cI am done with antisemitism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, eight months later, comes this: a 750-word letter in a national newspaper, asking not for sympathy, but for patience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not asking for sympathy, or a free pass, though I aspire to earn your forgiveness,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Online Reaction<\/strong><\/p>\n

The internet was not in a forgiving mood.<\/p>\n

Within hours, the apology was trending\u2014not for its contrition, but for its timing. West is reportedly preparing to release a new album.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe also has a new album about to come out,\u201d one user wrote on Threads. \u201cThat apology is PR.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cApologies that coincide with releases aren\u2019t apologies,\u201d another posted. \u201cThey\u2019re rollouts.\u201d<\/p>\n

One viral post needed no commentary at all\u2014just a screenshot of a Kanye lyric from his 2010 track \u201cMonster\u201d: \u201cF\u2014\u2013g\u2019 up my money so, yeah, I had to act sane.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI am pouring my energy into positive, meaningful art: music, clothing, design, and other new ideas to help the world,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

West is reportedly preparing to release new music. He has not spoken publicly since the ad was published.<\/p>\n

Whether this apology marks a genuine turning point\u2014or another stop on a familiar cycle\u2014remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
