{"id":333999,"date":"2026-01-26T19:54:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T00:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.etrafficlane.com\/60dollarmiracle\/lawyers-accuse-mexico-of-breaking-law-in-sending-cartel-members-to-us-without-order"},"modified":"2026-01-26T19:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T00:54:09","slug":"lawyers-accuse-mexico-of-breaking-law-in-sending-cartel-members-to-us-without-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etrafficlane.com\/60dollarmiracle\/lawyers-accuse-mexico-of-breaking-law-in-sending-cartel-members-to-us-without-order","title":{"rendered":"Attorneys accuse Mexico of breaking legislation in sending cartel members to US with out order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"prism-article-body\">\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \"><span class=\"oyrPY qlwaB AGxeB \">MEXICO CITY &#8212; <\/span>A group of lawyers and family members of important cartel figures accused Mexico&#8217;s government on Tuesday of breaking the law by sending nearly a hundred Mexican citizens to the United States without an extradition order. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">It comes less than a week after the administration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sent <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-us-trump-cartel-members-garcia-harfuch-e6af78fd8a5c851a81f7174324d55e51\">37 detained cartel members<\/a> to the U.S. in what observers have described as an offering by Mexican authorities to offset mounting threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to take military action against cartels. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Since last February, Mexico has sent a total of 92 <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-drug-lord-rafael-caro-quintero-extradition-ad769ef1f2addd8530f4b8b96d00bb4c\">cartel members<\/a> in three separate transfers to the U.S. requested by the Trump administration. It&#8217;s part of a larger <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-sheinbaum-trump-jalisco-new-generation-sinaloa-cartel-crime-7ead285daf7aac477a76b9adadbff120\">strategy by Sheinbaum<\/a> to crack down on cartels and maintain a positive relationship with the Trump. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The transfers have been at the center of a legal debate that has only gained more traction after last week&#8217;s hand over. Mexico\u2019s government has maintained the transfers were legal, carried out in the name of national security. The Trump administration said the capos were wanted for crimes in the U.S. and many of them had outstanding extradition requests by the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">In a press conference on Tuesday, lawyers for the cartel members asserted they were denied due process because they were sent to the U.S. without an extradition order, which requires a lengthy legal process in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cMexico is currently under intense pressure from the United States,\u201d said Yarey S\u00e1nchez Lagunas, the lawyer of two people transferred to the U.S. in the last year. \u201cThis forces us to seriously question if these decisions are being used to show political results, even if it comes at the expense of due process or the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The arguments echo those made by the lawyers of infamous capo <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mexico-joaquin-el-chapo-guzman-ba6371384d76f942c04201d588f7c6fc\">Joaqu\u00edn \u201cEl Chapo\u201d Guzm\u00e1n<\/a>, now serving a life sentence in a maximum-security prison in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">S\u00e1nchez Lagunas is the defense lawyer of Itiel Palacios Garc\u00eda, a leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel sent to the U.S. last February, and Pablo Edwin Huerta Nu\u00f1o, a leader of the Arellano F\u00e9lix Cartel in northern Mexico sent in August. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">One partner of a regional leader of the Zetas cartel, Vanesa Guzm\u00e1n, went as far to file a criminal complaint against high-ranking members of Mexico&#8217;s government, namely Mexican Security Minister Omar Garc\u00eda Harfuch, who has spearheaded much of the government&#8217;s cartel crackdown. Her partner, Juan Pedro Sald\u00edvar Far\u00edas, was sent to the U.S. last week in the latest set of transfers and is accused of arms and drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Guzm\u00e1n accused Harfuch and other security officials of \u201ctreason\u201d in her complaint filed to Mexico\u2019s Attorney General\u2019s Office on Tuesday, though lawyers of the transferred cartel members said they had no legal recourse within Mexico to challenge the transfers now that their clients are outside the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cThe transfer of my partner is nothing less than exile,&#8221; she said. \u201cAs of today, we haven&#8217;t heard anything from him. He hasn\u2019t even made his legally permitted call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Some, like Mike Vigil, former chief of international operations for the DEA, brushed off the complaints on Tuesday, and commended the U.S. authorities for \u201cfast-tracking\u201d a legal process that is often stalled for years by lawyers filing rounds of injunctions in an effort to slow down law enforcement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Vigil noted that Mexico&#8217;s constitution allows the country&#8217;s president to make major moves like the one seen last week to protect national security.
