WASHINGTON — <\/span>A handful of Republicans expressed growing concern Sunday about the tactics that federal immigration officials are using in Minnesota<\/a> after a U.S. Border Patrol agent<\/a> fatally shot a man in Minneapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said the killing Saturday of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse who protested President Donald Trump\u2019s immigration crackdown<\/a>, was a \u201creal tragedy.\u201d Pretti was a U.S. citizen, born in Illinois. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think the death of Americans, what we\u2019re seeing on TV, it\u2019s causing deep concerns over federal tactics and accountability,\u201d Stitt told CNN’s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d “Americans don\u2019t like what they\u2019re seeing right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he thought the president should pull immigration agents from Minnesota, Stitt said Trump has to answer that question.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s getting bad advice right now,\u201d Stitt said. <\/p>\n

The governor said the Republican president needed to tell the American people what the solution and \u201cendgame\u201d are, and that there needed to be solutions instead of politicizing the situation. \u201cRight now, tempers are just going crazy and we need to calm this down,\u201d Stitt said.<\/p>\n

Other Republicans, including Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, also conveyed unease. In a social media post, Cassidy called the shooting \u201cincredibly disturbing\u201d and that the \u201ccredibility of ICE and DHS are at stake.\u201d Tillis urged a \u201cthorough and impartial investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny administration official who rushes to judgment and tries to shut down an investigation before it begins are doing an incredible disservice to the nation and to President Trump\u2019s legacy,\u201d Tillis said in a post.<\/p>\n

Administration officials were firm in their defense of the hard-line immigration tactics. <\/p>\n

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said \u201cit’s a tragedy when anyone dies\u201d but he blamed Democratic leaders in Minnesota for \u201cfomenting chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of paid agitators who are ginning things up and the governor has not done a good job of tamping this down,\u201d Bessent said on ABC’s \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/p>\n
