Theo Von has spent years building an empire as the relatably \u201cclueless\u201d king of podcasting. But this week, the Louisiana native dropped the act to deliver a political bombshell that has both the far right and the far left reeling.<\/p>\n

During a landmark episode of his podcast<\/a>,\u00a0This Past Weekend,<\/em>\u00a0released on\u00a0January 21, 2026,\u00a0Von hosted\u00a0Senator Bernie Sanders for their second major sit-down. While their first meeting in August 2024 was seen as a quirky cross-cultural experiment, this latest appearance marked a total ideological pivot. Von didn\u2019t just interview Sanders. He aligned with him while launching a blistering critique of the MAGA movement and the \u201cbillionaire class\u201d that he says has abandoned the American worker.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tired of being told that some billionaire is gonna save me<\/em>,\u201d Von told a stunned audience. \u201cBernie is talking about the people I grew up with in the mud. The lobbyists are the ones winning, and it feels like the current administration is just playing both sides of the net.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shift follows months of subtle distancing from the Trump administration. While Von was credited with helping Donald Trump secure the young male vote in 2024, his tone has soured as reality has set in.<\/p>\n

During the nearly 90-minute conversation with Sanders, Von expressed deep frustration with the \u201ccorruption\u201d of Washington. He specifically targeted the influence of Big Pharma and the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. These are talking points that are usually the bread and butter of the progressive left and not the MAGA-friendly podcast circuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look at Wall Street, the drug companies, the insurance companies\u2026 they have enormous power<\/em>,\u201d Sanders told Von during the episode. \u201cThey tell the government what to do<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Von didn\u2019t push back. Instead, he rubbed his chin and agreed while lamenting that the government seems \u201chelpless\u201d to protect ordinary citizens from being \u201ckilled\u201d by rising costs and lack of healthcare.<\/p>\n

The reaction from Von\u2019s conservative fan base was swift and divided. On platforms like X and Reddit, some \u201cRat King\u201d loyalists accused him of being \u201cradicalized\u201d by the left, while others praised him for his intellectual honesty.<\/p>\n

The timing is particularly awkward for the Trump camp. Just last May, Von was performing stand-up sets for American troops in Qatar<\/a> alongside the President, who famously told the crowd, \u201cWe don\u2019t care if you\u2019re politically correct.\u201d Critics at the time, including\u00a0MSNBC,<\/em> labeled Von a \u201ctool of the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that same \u201ctool\u201d is hammering the administration\u2019s handling of ICE raids and its ties to corporate donors.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheo has always been a populist,\u201d says culture writer Aja Romano. \u201cHe\u2019s a 45-year-old from Louisiana who has lived through addiction and working-class struggles. If the MAGA movement stops feeling like it\u2019s for the working class, Theo will be the first one to jump ship.\u201d<\/p>\n
