Ashley St. Clair woke up Thursday to find her X account gutted.<\/p>\n

Her verified checkmark\u2014gone. Her Premium privileges\u2014revoked. Her creator monetization\u2014frozen.<\/p>\n

\u201cthey took my checkmark and canceled my twitter premium lmao,\u201d she posted, sharing a screenshot of the damage. \u201cwas it something i said.\u201d<\/p>\n

It probably was. She had gone public about Grok\u2014the AI chatbot built into Musk\u2019s platform\u2014generating sexualized images of her without consent. Some were based on photos from when she was 14. She told the bot to stop. It didn\u2019t. She threatened legal action.<\/p>\n

Then her account got stripped.<\/p>\n

When another user asked Grok why St. Clair had been penalized, the bot cited \u201cpotential terms violations, including her public accusations against Grok for generating inappropriate images.\u201d<\/p>\n

She had reported abuse. The platform called that the problem.<\/p>\n

St. Clair, a conservative commentator, is also the mother of one of Musk\u2019s children. She announced last February that Musk was the father of her son, born in September 2024. She later filed for sole custody. In March, she accused him of retaliating<\/a> financially after the suit.<\/p>\n

Now she\u2019s accusing his company of the same playbook\u2014punishing her for pushing back.<\/p>\n

\u201chey guys im starting to think the $44 billion wasn\u2019t for free speech,\u201d she wrote Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Grok controversy began in late December, when Musk rolled out a feature allowing users to edit any image on the platform using AI prompts. No permissions required. Within days, users discovered they could prompt the bot to undress women and children, generating sexualized images without consent.<\/p>\n

St. Clair says she was targeted repeatedly. She told Fortune she felt \u201cdisgusted and violated.\u201d In one image, her toddler\u2019s backpack was visible in the background\u2014the same bag her son carries to school every day.<\/p>\n

She tagged Grok directly and told it she didn\u2019t consent. The bot acknowledged her request, then kept generating more. \u201cAnd what ensued,\u201d she told Fortune, \u201cwas countless more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musk hasn\u2019t spoken to her about it. She told NBC News she has \u201czero desire\u201d to reach out to him directly. \u201cI don\u2019t think that would be right for me to handle this with resources not available to the countless other women and children this has been happening to,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Musk\u2019s public engagement with the controversy has been limited to laugh-cry emojis on some posts and a statement that users who create \u201cillegal content\u201d with Grok will face consequences. X\u2019s media team offered Reuters a two-word auto-reply when asked for comment: \u201cLegacy Media Lies.\u201d<\/p>\n

In interviews with Fortune, St. Clair called X \u201cthe most dangerous company in the world right now.\u201d She framed the issue as larger than herself\u2014a system that punishes women for existing publicly online.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you are exiling women from the public dialog because they can\u2019t operate in it without being abused,\u201d she said, \u201cyou are disproportionately excluding women from AI.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regulators have begun responding. The UK\u2019s Ofcom made urgent contact with xAI. The European Commission called the content \u201cillegal\u201d and \u201cdisgusting.\u201d<\/a> Congress passed the Take It Down Act last May, requiring platforms to remove nonconsensual intimate images within 48 hours.<\/p>\n

St. Clair has made requests. She\u2019s still waiting. She says she\u2019s considering legal action.<\/p>\n

xAI has not responded to requests for comment.<\/p>\n

She spoke out about what Grok did to her.<\/p>\n

Then she lost her checkmark, her Premium status, and her income.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
