{"id":325767,"date":"2025-11-18T08:26:50","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T13:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.etrafficlane.com\/60dollarmiracle\/how-empty-nesters-are-tempting-their-kids-to-come-home-for-the-holidays"},"modified":"2025-11-18T08:26:53","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T13:26:53","slug":"how-empty-nesters-are-tempting-their-kids-to-come-home-for-the-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.etrafficlane.com\/60dollarmiracle\/how-empty-nesters-are-tempting-their-kids-to-come-home-for-the-holidays","title":{"rendered":"How Empty Nesters Are Tempting Their Youngsters To Come Residence for the Holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"text\" readability=\"109.37774030354\">\n<p>Empty nesters are using their kids\u2019 favorite holiday meals to attract them home for the holidays,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/talkerresearch.com\/study-finds-empty-nesters-connect-with-their-kids-over-holiday-food\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a new survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The poll of 1,000 U.S. \u201cempty nesters\u201d \u2014\u00a0parents whose kids have already moved out of the home \u2014 found more than half (54%) plan on having their children come home for the holidays this year, and their kids are trekking an average of 596 miles to get back home.<\/p>\n<p>Many empty nesters admitted they struggle with the home being too quiet (36%) and that they often get nostalgic for when their kids were younger (35%).<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the study commissioned by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.honeybaked.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Honey Baked Ham Company<\/a>\u00a0and conducted by Talker Research revealed 69% claim it\u2019s \u201ceasy\u201d to convince their kids to come home for the holidays. For many, all they need is their favorite foods.<\/p>\n<p>One in four (28%) said their kids have made special requests for their homecoming: having their favorite meals made for them (72%), asking to have their favorite snacks or drinks ready for them (46%) and visiting old local spots and hangouts (18%).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Parents Are Happy To Make Favorite Meals<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>And 87% of empty nesters are all too happy to oblige, already planning to make their kids\u2019 favorite meals while they\u2019re home for the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>While 26% of empty nesters motivate their kids to come home by reminding them how nice it is, 19% prefer to welcome them home with their favorite foods and another 16% offer to send them home with extras.<\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds of parents said they start shopping weeks in advance for their kids\u2019 favorite foods before arriving home. Likewise, 42% said they\u2019d likely need to shop for different foods, depending on who their kids bring home with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking the home really feel like home means making sure there\u2019s something for everybody,\u201d said Jim Dinkins, CEO, HoneyBaked. \u201cAround the holidays, people want to feel welcomed. There is nothing quite as welcoming as making sure their favorite foods are ready for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The survey found, in addition to their kids, empty nesters are also planning to host their grandkids (53%), their kid\u2019s significant other (42%), extended family members (40%) and their own significant other (36%).<\/p>\n<p>Four in five believe it\u2019s important that everyone coming to their home for the holidays has something good to eat, no matter their preferences.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Turkey and Ham Are Top Main Dishes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On average, empty nesters said they\u2019re planning to have three different main dishes at the ready before guests arrive \u2014 the most popular being turkey (66%) and ham (52%).<\/p>\n<p>But many expect getting the table ready will involve some quick thinking. Over half (56%) anticipate they\u2019ll have to make last-minute runs to the store to grab food they forgot about. One in four believe they\u2019ll have to make at least two last-minute shopping sprees to get everything they need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFood is such an important part of the holidays \u2014 it\u2019s exactly what empty nesters and their kids can gather around to make coming home for the holidays feel special,\u201d continued Dinkins. \u201cBut empty nesters don\u2019t want to spend all their time in the kitchen, away from the family members they only see once or twice a year.
