Prince Frederik<\/strong>, who was the youngest son of the Prince and Princess of Nassau, has died following a battle with an illness.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

His father, Prince Robert of Luxembourg<\/strong> announced his son died at the beginning of March from the rare genetic condition POLG Mitochondrial disease which \u201crobs the body\u2019s cells of energy, in turn causing progressive multiple organ dysfunction and failure,\u201d according to the POLG Foundation. He was diagnosed with the condition when he was 14 years old.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

His father said in the statement \u2026 \u201cLast Friday, February 28th, on \u201cRare Disease Day\u201d, our beloved son called us in to his room to speak to him for one last time. Frederik found the strength and the courage to say goodbye to each of us in turn \u2026 After gifting each of us with our farewells \u2013 some kind, some wise, some instructive \u2013 in true Frederik fashion, he left us collectively with a final long-standing family joke.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

He says Prince Frederik died with his family by his side adding \u2026 \u201cEven in his last moments, his humour, and his boundless compassion, compelled him to leave us with one last laugh\u2026.to cheer us all up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

He leaves behind his father, his mother Princess Julie of Nassau<\/strong>, his brother, Alexander<\/strong>, his sister, Charlotte<\/strong>, his three cousins, Charly<\/strong>, Louis<\/strong>, and Donall<\/strong>, his brother-in-law, Mansour<\/strong>, and his Aunt Charlotte <\/strong>and Uncle Mark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
