Scott Thorson<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who dished on his romance with Liberace<\/strong><\/a> in his 1988 memoir \u201cBehind the Candelabra\u201d just a year after the famed pianist\u2019s death \u2014 has died.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Thorson died on August 16 \u2014 he\u2019d been a patient at an L.A. healthcare facility, where he had been dealing with cancer and a heart condition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Thorson was hired as Liberace\u2019s personal friend and companion when he was 18 and the icon was 57 \u2014 which kicked off their 5-year romance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Thorson got fired from his gig in \u201982 \u2014 and then hit Liberace with a $113 million lawsuit \u2026 which ended up being the first same-sex palimony suit ever filed in the U.S.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n But, Liberace kept denying he was homosexual, and they ended up settling the suit out of court. Liberace died the next year, in 1987, from HIV\/AIDS-related complications.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Thorson\u2019s memoir came out the next year \u2026 and was later turned into the 2013 HBO film of the same name, directed by Steven Soderbergh<\/strong><\/a>, starring Matt Damon<\/strong><\/a> as Thorson and Michael Douglas<\/strong><\/a> as Liberace.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
