Judi Dench<\/strong><\/a> is jumping into the trigger warning debate \u2014 and TBH, her comments alone might just warrant a trigger warning in and of itself \u2026 \u2019cause she\u2019s got a fiery take about it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The actress says she didn\u2019t realize many productions now give viewers a heads-up about distressing material, telling the <\/a>Radio Times<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cMy God, it must be a pretty long trigger warning before King Lear or Titus Andronicus! Crikey, is that really what happens now?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n After the news sank in, Judi\u2019s take basically amounted to crapping on the idea of protecting viewers, saying \u2026 \u201cIf you\u2019re that<\/em> sensitive, don\u2019t go to the theater, because you could be very shocked. Where is the surprise of seeing and understanding it in your own way?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n She doubled down, and made it clear the beauty of attending a production lies in the excitement, surprise, and stimulation it offers \u2014 at least from her point of view, anyway.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n FWIW, Judi\u2019s not totally blind to the rationale behind trigger warnings \u2026 acknowledging their necessity in certain circumstances to prepare people \u2014 but more so than not, she thinks they\u2019re silly.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Big picture \u2026 Judi says she largely feels they detract from the viewer\u2019s experience.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Judi joins a growing list of big names speaking out against trigger warnings. Earlier this year, Ralph Fiennes<\/strong><\/a> suggested theatergoers had \u201cgone soft,\u201d while Bill Maher<\/strong><\/a> went as far as saying they were ruining America.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n
