Titled <em>The Roses<\/em>, the new dark comedy is written by Tony McNamara and based on the novel by Warren Adler.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/benedict-cumberbatch-olivia-colman-war-of-the-roses-jay-roach-1235956943\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a>, \u201cThe film follows picture-perfect couple Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman), who have successful careers, great kids and an enviable [romantic] life. But underneath the fa\u00e7ade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentment that\u2019s ignited when Theo\u2019s professional dreams come crashing down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Roses<\/em> is a wildly funny, bigger-than-life, and yet deeply human story,\u201d said Searchlight president <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/04\/the-roses-benedict-cumberbatch-olivia-colman-to-star-jay-roach-movie-1235873055\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Matthew Greenfield in a statement<\/a> announcing the project. \u201cWith Jay at the helm, and Benedict and Olivia and Tony, we have a dream team bringing it to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Variety<\/em> reports that \u201cCumberbatch will produce under his SunnyMarch banner with Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland, who have been in development on the project since 2017. DeVito, Douglas, and Turner previously worked together on <em>Romancing the Stone<\/em> and <em>Jewel of the Nile<\/em>. <em>The War of the Roses<\/em> got favorable reviews, nominated for several Golden Globe Awards, and made $160 million worldwide against a budget of only $26 million.<\/p>\n<p>As for <em>The Roses<\/em>, SunnyMarch\u2019s Adam Ackland said, \u201cWe are thrilled to be working on this very special film with such an incredible team.
