Saving money by saving electricity is a no-brainer.\u00a0 Use less power, pay less.\u00a0 But EARNING money by saving electricity is taking it a step above and beyond.<\/p>\n

Of course your utility bill will be lower by using<\/em> less electricity, but now you can also get actual cash, on top of the savings on your bill!<\/p>\n

When we moved into our northern California house a year and a half ago, we signed up for a free program called OhmConnect<\/a>.\u00a0 I had heard about the program previously, but until we had our own<\/em> utility bill, I couldn\u2019t try it out.<\/p>\n

In short, OhmConnect is like cash back on your utility bill.\u00a0 When you save electricity during designated times each week you earn real cash rewards.<\/p>\n

In an average month we earn $30-$50, but during the month of August we earned over $90 just from reducing our electricity use during a few hours each week!<\/p>\n

Now that we\u2019ve used OhmConnect<\/a> for a year and a half and can vouch for it being a great program, I want to give you all of the details so you can start earning money too!\u00a0 Then, I\u2019ll tell you why my kids love<\/em> saving electricity with OhmConnect.<\/p>\n

What is OhmConnect?<\/h2>\n

OhmConnect is a free program that rewards you for reducing your electricity usage during certain hours.<\/p>\n

OhmConnect<\/a> rewards households who proactively reduce power during a few designated hours called \u201cOhmHours\u201d.\u00a0 Having 300,000 people reducing their usage during the same hour when energy demand is high prevents extra power plants (which are expensive and bad for the environment) from having to turn on.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a win-win-win situation!\u00a0 The electric\u00a0 company saves money, we earn money, and the environment doesn\u2019t suffer from turning on a dirty power plant.<\/p>\n

Who is eligible to earn monetary compensation?<\/h2>\n

All homeowners and renters in California who have PG&E, SCE, or SDG&E are eligible.\u00a0 If you are in New York and have ConEd you are eligible. If you\u2019re in Texas and you\u2019re a part of Smart Meter Texas, you might be eligible too!<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re somewhere else in the United States, you can participate, but you\u2019ll win prizes instead of cash rewards.<\/p>\n
