3:28 PM PT<\/strong> \u2014 Cher just paid tribute to her famous \u2018Moonstruck\u2019 co-star and onscreen mother in light of her passing \u2026 and even offered some insight into the last time she spoke to her.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Cher also followed up by saying she\u2019d actually spoken to Olympia recently, and despite sounding frail over the phone, Olympia recognized her once Cher said her name, apparently responding with \u201cOh Cher, I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Olympia Dukakis<\/strong> \u2014 the Oscar-winning actress best known for her role in \u2018Moonstruck\u2019 \u2014 has died \u2026 this according to her family.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Her brother, Apollo<\/strong>, broke the sad news Saturday \u2026 taking to Facebook to update fans that his sister had passed in New York City. He adds, \u201cAfter many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis<\/strong>.\u201d Her husband, Louis, died in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Dukakis is perhaps most remembered for her turn as Cher<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s mother in the 1987 rom-com \u2014 in which she played a wise-cracking matriarch who dealt with her daughter\u2019s relationship woes \u2026 and those of her own as well.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

She\u2019d starred in countless other movies and shows over the years too \u2014 most notably, \u2018Steel Magnolias,\u2019 all of the \u2018Look Who\u2019s Talking\u2019 movies, \u2018Mr. Holland\u2019s Opus,\u2019 \u2018Working Girl,\u2019 \u2018Over the Hill,\u2019 \u2018Mafia!\u2019 \u2018In the Land of Women,\u2019 \u2018The Cemetery Club,\u2019 \u2018Charlie\u2019s War,\u2019 and countless others. Dukakis was known for her comedic chops \u2026 but she could do drama just as well.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Her television career was perhaps just as prolific \u2026 Dukakis has appeared on a number of hit shows over the years, including \u201cSearch for Tomorrow,\u201d \u201cTales of the City,\u201d \u201cTouched By an Angel,\u201d \u201cThe Simpsons,\u201d \u201cCenter of the Universe,\u201d \u201cFrasier,\u201d \u201cJoan of Arc,\u201d \u201cBored to Death,\u201d \u201cLaw & Order,\u201d \u201cSex & Violence,\u201d \u201cForgive Me,\u201d \u201cTripTank,\u201d \u201cSwitch\u201d and more.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Dukakis had won and been nominated for Golden Globes and Emmys \u2026 this on top of her Oscar win in \u201988. Even before her on-screen success, Dukakis was a decorated stage performer \u2026 having performed in over 100 productions, including both Broadway and off-Broadway shows.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Of course, she\u2019s also former Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis<\/strong>\u2018 cousin \u2014 so her family name is incredibly famous.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

She\u2019s survived by her 3 children and siblings. Olympia was 89.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
