One of Elvis Presley<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s most famous guitars is hitting the auction block \u2026 and acquiring it may require a king\u2019s ransom.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Elvis\u2019 historic 1942 Martin D-18 guitar \u2014 which The King owned between 1954 and 1956 \u2014 will be up for auction over at Gotta Have Rock and Roll, and no doubt it\u2019ll go to a serious collector with huuuuge pockets. The minimum bid starts at a whopping $1.2 million. It\u2019s expected to fetch up to THREE MILLION BUCKS.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The investment\u2019s totally worth it \u2026 because the instrument oozes musical history. For starters, the guitar is often referred to as Elvis\u2019 \u201cSun Sessions\u201d guitar. Elvis recorded at the iconic Sun Studios in Memphis, TN and also performed with the guitar onstage.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The King of Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll bought the guitar at O.K. Houck\u2019s Piano Store in Memphis, trading in his Martin 000-18 model. He then went on to decorate the body of the guitar with adhesive metal letters spelling out \u201cELVIS.\u201d Today, the guitar\u2019s missing the \u201cS.\u201d The extensive wear visible on the guitar, no doubt, is due to Elvis\u2019 hard strumming and the guitar\u2019s frequent use.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

And, get this \u2026 during the time Elvis owned the guitar, he also recorded the classics \u201cThat\u2019s Alright (Mama),\u201d \u201cBlue Moon of Kentucky\u201d and \u201cGood Rockin\u2019 Tonight,\u201d to name a few.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The new owner of this guitar will get TONS of paperwork proving the authenticity \u2026 from a photocopy of the receipt from O.K. Houck Piano and photocopies of correspondence from the curator of the Country Music Hall of Fame to a historical note about the guitar \u2026 which has been reported to be Elvis\u2019 first guitar.
